Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

We are looking to welcome the right person into our family and introduce them to all that Dutch/American life has to offer! :)

We live in Oegstgeest, which is a small town adjacent to the city of Leiden. It’s a really lovely town with lots of green spaces and a quaint shopping street just a 5 minute walk away. Even though it’s a small town, it has excellent public transportation, with bus stops a 1 minute walk away, a main highway 2 minutes away, and the Leiden central train station 8 minutes away by bike. The Hague is only 10 minutes by train, with Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht all about 35 minutes away. But even Leiden itself is amazing! It’s an old medieval city with cobblestone streets, canals, and has many museums, cafes, and restaurants.

There is so much here to explore! We are thrilled to welcome an au pair into our home and provide a rich cultural experience of a lifetime.

Job Description

What we are looking for practically:
- Dropping off/picking up kids from school some days
- Taking care of Calvin after school
- Some cooking
- Helping clean up after dinner
- Some babysitting on the weekends
- Light household work

We would ideally like to host an au pair who has experience working with special needs kids, primarily with ASD. This would be of great benefit to our son, who was recently diagnosed with ASD. More understanding and empathy towards him will certainly help him to grow and develop.

We have a car that can be used for taking the kids around, and we require our au pair to be a confident and skilled driver with a clean driving record. We also have an electric bike that is available to use.

Accommodation

Our au pair will have their own private room, which is on the same floor as Olivia and Calvin’s room. The spare bedroom is small but well-equipped with a double bed, a chest with six drawers, and a nightstand with two drawers. We also plan on adding a small desk with chair. The bathroom will be shared with the kids and it includes a renovated shower and bath. And of course, wifi!
