Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Originally translated from Deutsch
Dear Au Pair,
This will be our first experience with the au pair system. Perhaps you feel the same way...which is why I hope we can learn from each other. I myself had very positive experiences with my au pairs as a child, so it's not completely foreign to me, and I still maintain contact with some of them.
My husband will be working abroad starting in August 2025, which means I'll be a single mother with two children, no family in Switzerland, and a full-time position as a doctor (partially shift work, 10-hour workdays, and night or day shifts).
For this reason, I am looking for a responsible, trustworthy, independent, and well-organized young au pair with previous experience in childcare, a good relationship with children, and an eye for potential dangers for my absence. I need someone who can demonstrate flexibility to step in if the shift unexpectedly lasts longer.
I consider a 30-hour workweek realistic, as Efe, our 3-year-old son, will be cared for at daycare between 7:30 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. Meriç, our 8-year-old son, is quite independent and will be attending the 3rd grade of elementary school starting in August 2025. It would be important for him to be greeted with a friendly face and a hot lunch at lunchtime (he walks to school himself). Helping him with his homework and possible leisure activities in the afternoon would also be a task.
However, this would leave you enough time in the morning to attend a German course.
In the household, it would be important to prepare a hot meal once a day (or once for two days). Keeping things tidy and helping with shopping if necessary would be possible.
In the evening, Efe should be showered and changed after daycare. After dinner, we spend a short, quiet time together, and he should be prepared for bed. In the evening, organizing his bags for the next day would be essential.
We are a lovely family who primarily speaks German and Turkish at home. English and French are also spoken. Meriç is already looking forward to learning French at school this year.
On the weekends, you are welcome to use one day for your day off (except if I have shifts...frequency of 6 days or nights in 3 months).
The idea would be that you would receive 300 CHF per month. You would receive a one-time payment of 150 CHF for your travel expenses. In addition, if you attend a German course, I would contribute 50 CHF per month towards this and cover the costs of your health insurance. However, you would have to pay any bills for doctor's visits (except in emergencies) yourself, according to your deductible.
So that we can be like a family and our children maintain a good bond with you, we would be interested in a long-term position, ideally 18-24 months.
Our boys are both very social and are already looking forward to welcoming an older sister.
I'm happy to answer any further questions.
Kind regards
Best
