Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

We are a cheerful and fun-loving family—Mom and three girls (ages 3, 5, and 10)—and we are looking forward to welcoming your energetic support, as our first au pair unfortunately has to leave after a wonderful year with us.

We are very active and love spending time outdoors and with horses. The girls enjoy swimming, horseback riding, vaulting, and playing the piano. In the winter, we love going to the snow.

I myself am a self-employed veterinarian specializing in chiropractic and physiotherapy.

Our au pair will have their own room with a private bathroom.

We are looking for another au pair to help with childcare and household tasks, such as preparing breakfast/lunch/dinner, tidying up the kitchen and childrens rooms and folding laundry. Babysitting, including putting the children to bed in the evenings and taking the babyphone 2-3 times a weeknshould also be no problem for you.

Most importantly, I value someone who can work independently and shows initiative by recognizing where help is needed. You should be reliable, very organized, tidy and clean and love spending time with children. We’re looking for someone who enjoys taking the children outside, as well as engaging them indoors through crafts, painting, games, and other activities that encourage their development. A loving yet consistent approach with the children is very important to me.

My girls are very open, communicative, funny, and full of life.

We hope to find an au pair who is responsible with both the children and the household, punctual, flexible with working hours, adaptable, adventurous, respectful, and communicative.

With us, you will join a lively and adventurous family where you can improve your German language skills (currently desired level: at least A2), experience German culture and cuisine, and become a welcomed member of the family.
I myself speak English and Spanish almost fluently. And I have knowledge of basic French.

Not to forget our aupait leaves us at 30th of March - itvwould be great if you could come two weeks earlier that that our current pair could show you everything and the the daily routines … this would make it easier for all of us & for you that you get get a good start here as our new new pair.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Job Description

Our weekday routine looks approximately like this. I’ll describe what our current au pair, who has been with us for almost a year and has done an amazing job, typically does each day. Not every day is the same, but many weekdays follow a similar pattern.

In the morning, the day begins with our au pair preparing breakfast for the children and the family, and then we eat together. Afterwards, the au pair tidies up the kitchen. Either I take the children to daycare, or if I already have appointments in my practice, the au pair takes care of that.

In the mornings, you usually have free time since the children are at daycare or school. However, part of your responsibilities includes folding laundry, so on two mornings a week, you might fold laundry after I’ve washed, hung, and dried it for the family. I work in my practice during the mornings, sometimes into the early afternoon, so it would be great if you could prepare lunch, as my oldest daughter and middle daughter come home for lunch, and we all eat together. Afterwards, you tidy up the kitchen again.

Afternoons vary. Sometimes, you’ll pick up the younger children from daycare and look after them. This could mean playing with them indoors, reading books, doing puzzles, crafts, or playing with them outside in the garden, courtyard, or at the playground. Meanwhile, I might be driving one of the children to their hobbies or activities, which usually requires the car.

In the evening, it’s your responsibility to prepare dinner and then tidy up the kitchen after we eat together. About two to three evenings a week, I would like you to put the children to bed and then keep an eye on the baby monitor and stay with the children.

Back to the afternoons: there are also times when you’ll have free time, for example, when I’m out with all the children or when the oldest is at a friend’s house. Of course, you’re very welcome to join us for afternoon activities if you’d like.

Weekends are always different. Sometimes we have friends visiting, or we visit friends. Other times we stay home, go horseback riding, take trips, or just relax and play together at home. Occasionally, I have appointments on Saturday mornings, and I would ask you to watch the children during that time.

You will always have 1.5 consecutive days off and will work 30 hours per week, as stated in every au pair contract, for the corresponding au pair stipend. It would be great if you could be flexible in case the weekly schedule changes.

Every Sunday evening, I create the weekly schedule for our aupair. This means that you can prepare for the week ahead and know when your working times are.

We look forward to welcoming you i
