Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

We would love to welcome you to our home on the beautiful island of Mallorca! We have been living here for the past 6 years and love the place. We are located just outside Palma, with very easy access to the beach, supermarkets, cafes and transportation to many events taking place in the city.

Mallorca is a very popular tourist destination and most people will speak English. For the same reason, you can find an international community to be part of and a mix of cultures, festivals, and food. There is an au pair community with regular meetups. It is equally important to us that you will get a good experience out of this.

We live in an area called Ca'n Pastilla, which is very vibrant. There are several beach places within walking distance of our home. You can find sandy beach, rocky beach, commercial beach or more natural place in the area.
In the same time there is walking distance to shops, cafes, pharmacies and supermarkets. The area is very popular amongst tourists so you will find everything you need by walking.
We are well connected to the center of Palma with several busses that run every 15 min. The ride takes about 20 mins and you are in the historical centre of the city. There are lots of events taking place year round in Palma, concerts, fairs etc. We love to spend the day wondering around the old streets, small shops and checking out cultural events.

Job Description

Now in the summer we have a more relaxed schedule since there is no school schedule. We wake up around 8-9 am and start the day together. In the morning we need help preparing. Our kids have a different diet so we need to prepare 2 different breakfasts. The baby eats more puree foods and we cook separately for her. For the rest of us we make the same breakfast, normally something easy. We expect all to participate
After breakfast we spend time tidying up, playing with our daughter and find an activity for our son - reading/writing/math etc
Around 10-10:30 our daughter has a nap and we go for a walk with the stroller. The au pair can help here. The nap is 30 min - 1 hr (great for a walk into the centre and back). After the nap we prepare the lunch and we eat around 12:30-13:00.
The afternoon is for relaxing. The baby has a long nap (2-3 hours) and we try to rest as well.
Around 5pm we get going again. The kids have a snack. After, we can head to the beach, play outside or prepare dinner.
We eat around 7-8 pm, after which we tidy up the place and prepare the baby for her bedtime around 9pm.

We need some extra hands here at home to help us during the summer holiday and beyond. The mother is at home with the kids so there will be a division of tasks - either play/look after the baby or spend time with the son or help with meals. We can decide what works best depending on preference. Here are the potential tasks, all depending on who spends time with who:

If spending time with our daughter you can:
look after our baby and ensure she can explore freely while she stays safe - she is in the crawling phase
help bath her/change diaper/change clothes
engage her in a small activity - playing with toys, reading, listening to music
go out for a walk with the stroller when weather allows (main concearn being the heat)
feed her pureed food

If spending time with our son you can:
guide our son in doing homework when he gets stuck
help our son doing some creative activities fx he enjoys: lego, drawing, playing instruments, cooking, making bracelets
taking small trips outside - to the beach, to the park, supermarket
play sports: basketball, football, volleyball go for a swim

If helping with the house chores you can:
prepare light snacks and tidy up after breakfast/lunch/dinner
help with meal preparation for lunch/dinner
tidying up living areas from toys
light cleaning (fx vacuum cleaning common areas, putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher, folding laundry)

We expect the au pair to help mainly in the daytime during weekdays. There are a few pockets of intense activity where we need help - mainly around breakfast, lunch and dinner. The minimum required stay would be September 1-December 15

In the weekends if the au pair wishes to help or join us on small trips, would be very welcome.
