Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello to you !

We are looking forward to meeting you and getting to know you better. We have had au pairs since our little princess turned 2 and we are truly delighted for you to be part of our family and join in the fun. Our au pair is truly a new member of the family. You’ll get to know our daughter’s aunts, uncles and grandparents, meet our friends, attend our parties and travel with us. That being said, we also expect a very independent au pair who should both be happy to tag along but should also be ready to spend time doing other things as there aren’t that many working hours. Although the au pair is not required to work as much as in other families, we do require you to dedicate your time spent with our daughter to 100% of your capacities and we also expect you to be polite with us at all times and behave properly in our home. Our daughter is still young, very lively, running about constantly and not quite the independent type. We are counting on you to keep her safe, exhausted (yes please, do take her out and make her run and play) and happy (we require someone who tends to smile and chat a lot, be jolly as a whole!).

Outside taking care of our daughter, tidying after her and your own bedroom would be wonderful. You are not required to cook for her or to clean the flat. You can enjoy Paris as much as you want and leave on your personal holiday trip if you wish (as long as you tell us in advance so that we can arrange things). Around 1 week off every 5 weeks is absolutely fine with us. We need someone we can trust around the flat, especially when you spend weekends alone (no parties or no trashing our home) but as we get to know you better you will absolutely be allowed to bring friends, family and boyfriend/girlfriend as long as you guarantee the safety of the flat and our belongings. In order to proceed further, we will video call to get to know you and if we get along (like house on fire, of course), you will be required to come and spend 2 or 3 days with us. Those days will both be the opportunity for you to meet us in person and make it a true live job interview but also the opportunity for you to visit Paris as we’ll only see you before we go to work and in the evening when we come back (therefore the time for you to prove your independent skills as well).

Nothing for us is more important than the safety and happiness of our daughter and we hope to find someone who wants exactly the same.

Note, these are the things we cover :
Wages : 320 euros/month
Transportation (in Paris, not your transportation to Paris from your country) : monthly carte navigo
Free time for you to attend a language course if you wish
Your own bedroom (no private bathroom)
All of your meals (of course! But considering the number of questions I’ve received, I thought I’d add it)
The family social insurance payments
The statutory social insurance (in case of illness, work accident, …)
Extension of our personal liability insurance to our au pair
That being said, we expect someone sensible. Paris is a big city and we want you in your free time to be careful and take care of yourself. If you wish to go clubbing or go out in the evening to make new friends you are very welcome to ! Just remember to stay safe !

Job Description

On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, you will work from 8am to 8:30am and 4:30pm to 7pm. You will walk her to school in the morning (a 10min walk) and then go and get her after school in the evening. After school, you’ll take her to a park nearby and give her her snack (ready every day in a bag for you to take). She’ll eat it and then play at the playground. During that time, the playground might get a little busy so make sure no one takes her away. At 5:45/6pm you can head home (also 10min walks depending on where you go). At home we’ll take care of feeding, bathing and changing her into her pajamas together. I mostly will take care of it but I expect you to help me if needed. Then it leaves you around 30 min (until 7pm) to read her stories, play with her toys, listen to music, talk to her, .. (basically do whatever you want to do). We’ll put them to bed.
On Wednesday you will be with our daughter all afternoon, from 12:30 to 7pm. You can do anything you want as long as you make sure she are tired when they get home. Let her roam in a park, play at the playground, dance at home, … and then the evening will be the same as the other days of the week.
Your weekends are off apart from the occasional Saturday morning for 4 hours (let’s say once a month on average).
During our holiday you can tag along or stay behind. The same goes with weekends when we leave. If you come with us we are 24/7 with the children so I cannot offer you any schedule, but I try to keep the same number of hours (expect that you’ll be with us more during the transportation time). And as already mentioned, you can also stay in Paris, travel on your own, or visit your hometown/family while we are away.

Accommodation

We live in a normal sized flat that we think is quite cosy. You have your own bedroom which is also a normal sized bedroom but no private bathroom as we only have one. We live on the close outskirts of Paris. A bus takes you to central Paris in 15 minutes. The bedroom is very clean and mostly white (we both have boys and girls so you can spend time adding a little color or decorating according to your own taste).
