Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello!

We are Sylvie (French) and Matthias (Swiss), parents of two boys aged 7 and 14, and we live in Paris. Our children, who are very curious and lively, attended Montessori schools before joining a more traditional English-French bilingual school. They enjoy talking, baking, reading, listening to music or audio stories, and playing board games (and sometimes video games, of course!).

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and cultured (or curious) au pair to share our daily life.
It's our youngest son, Bastien, who will especially need your help. He is curious and talkative. His older brother, Gaëtan, is more independent and will appreciate your presence but will require less of your help.

We have already had two wonderful experiences with au pairs and would be delighted to welcome you as a true member of the family. You'll have your own room, free time, and the opportunity to enjoy Paris... or come with us to the countryside on weekends.

Finally, we are a simple, cheerful, and respectful family, happy to welcome someone who wants to integrate and share wonderful moments.

We have maintained very good ties with our previous au pairs (from the United Kingdom and Canada). If you'd like, we can put you in touch with them to share their experiences.

See you soon,

Sylvie, Matthias, Gaëtan, and Bastien

Job Description

The au pair's role will be to take Bastien to school in the morning at 8:30 a.m. (a 15-minute ride on metro line 6) and pick him up from school at 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. She will therefore be free during the day.
(No housework.)

After school, Bastien has time to play with his friends in a park near the school or in the park in front of our house. He may go to extracurricular activities from time to time.
Then, we need to help him with his homework in French and English.

Then around 6:30 p.m., Bastien goes to the bath or shower alone, but we need to supervise him from time to time.
During this time, we simply need to heat up a meal that has already been prepared (by a cook) and sometimes remind Gaëtan that he needs to set the table (but he usually does it alone). From time to time, you can help him with English homework, but he usually manages on his own.

Then, we meet around 7 p.m. for dinner together. From that point on, the au pair is no longer responsible for the children.

On Wednesdays, we will ask you to babysit Bastien in the morning or afternoon and do activities with him or take him to activities.

During school holidays, we will count on you to take him to internships, but we can also provide some time off if you want to visit France.
We will ask you to babysit in the evenings from time to time.

We will create a monthly schedule to ensure we don't exceed 25 hours per week.

We would like you to speak to the boys as much as possible in English, but we suggest that we all speak French during dinner to help you learn the language. (Plus, Sylvie doesn't speak English well! ;) )

We have the pleasure of owning a country house 1 hour 15 minutes by train from Paris in the upper Burgundy region.
We go there almost every weekend to enjoy the peace and quiet of the garden, do crafts, play board games, ride bikes, have a fireplace, or entertain friends.
If we stay in Paris, we like to go to cultural exhibitions, see friends, go to restaurants, etc.

So on weekends, you can either come and enjoy nature and family time with us or stay in Paris to enjoy the apartment alone.
