Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Prospective Au Pair,

I hope you are excited to embark on your cultural exchange to the United States! You are a courageous and adventurous person for wanting to leave your home country for a long time to learn about other cultures. We hope that you would find a fun and comfortable place if you choose to stay with us.

We decided we wanted to host an Au Pair because we had a mutual friend in college who was an Au Pair from Hungary. She had a very positive experience, and we want to provide the same for our Au Pair. We are excited to show you around our home city of Philadelphia!

Philadelphia is an amazing city with lots of history and culture to experience. Philly (as we call it locally) was the original capital of the U.S. and has many beautiful historic areas and sights, such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and Elfreth's Alley. There are also great museums and tourist attractions such as the Museum of Art, The Barnes, The Franklin Institute, and the Zoo (The oldest zoo in the U.S.). Additionally, Philly is well known as a city with great food and drink, with many internationally recognized restaurants.

We can't wait to meet you. Good luck as you launch your adventure to the United States!

Job Description

The hours are 9 am - 4:15 pm, Monday thru Friday.

Our son loves to attend toddler classes and events within easy walking distance of our home. He also loves to play at either of the two nearby parks. The Au Pair is free to organize activities for our son as she and he see fit!

We also have a neighbor with a son close to ours. Their son is also cared for by an Au Pair. Often, our Au Pairs and sons hang out or go to the park together.

We would ask that the au pair keep the kid's room neat and remove the trash related to child care when full. We would ask that the au pair take care of the baby's laundry weekly, including cloth diapering. If there is a kid-related mess created during the day (like feeding or changing outside the baby's room), we would ask that the related mess be put in the proper place, like the sink or trash.

Accommodation

We have a 3rd floor with a large bedroom, plenty of closet space, and a private bath that would be for the Au Pair's exclusive use. Our house has a great side yard, with a fire pit that we regularly use in the summer and fall. We live in an exciting neighborhood with great bars and restaurants, near the train to get downtown easily.

Our large, 3-story home has 5 bedrooms, a parlor, a formal dining room, and a rear family room. An unfinished basement allows for additional storage. A large side yard has trees and a children's playset. We have a front and side porch as well and love the spend time outside. The home has a historic feel with corbels and trims detailing on the front.

The Au Pair's private bedroom is on the third floor of our home and is quite large (the same size as the master). It includes built-in bookshelves, 2 closets, and a private bathroom. Adjacent is a private bathroom for the Au Pair's exclusive use. Additional closets are also available in the hallway. The 3rd floor also has a smaller 2nd bedroom that we use as a guest room occasionally.
