Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Future Au Pair,

Thank you for considering joining our family! We are a multicultural German-Japanese household living in Ratingen, a peaceful and family-friendly town near Düsseldorf. Our family consists of two loving parents and two children, aged 3 and 5, who are full of curiosity and energy.

As parents, we both deeply value a warm and enriching home environment. Together, we are passionate about fostering creativity, sustainability, and cultural connection within our home.

Our two children attend a bilingual kindergarten during the week and a Japanese language preschool on Saturdays. They speak Japanese well, but we want to deepen their connection to their cultural roots through language and traditions. Your role will be central in helping us achieve this goal!

We hope you will bring your creativity and love for Japanese culture to engage the children in playful learning activities such as storytelling, arts and crafts, songs, and games. Sharing traditions like seasonal celebrations, origami, or simple Japanese recipes would be wonderful as well!

In your free time, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to relax and explore the surrounding areas. Ratingen’s city center is a 10-minute bike ride away, and Düsseldorf is easily accessible by public transport. Whether you prefer discovering local cafes, taking nature walks, or enjoying quiet time at home, we’ll support you in making the most of your stay with us.

You will have your own fully autonomous apartment within our house, shared with a female Japanese student. It includes a private bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and living space, ensuring comfort and privacy while still being close to our family life.

As a family, we enjoy spending time outdoors, especially cycling, swimming, and running. We also cook fresh meals daily, using local and seasonal ingredients. Food is a big part of our lives, and we often enjoy cooking together as a family. You’re always welcome to join us in the kitchen or at the table!

We are excited to welcome you into our home and create a supportive, warm environment where you’ll feel like part of the family. This will be a rewarding cultural exchange for all of us as we share stories, traditions, and laughter together.

We can’t wait to meet you and begin this wonderful journey together!

Job Description

We are a German-Japanese family living in Ratingen, near Düsseldorf, seeking an au pair to help enrich our children’s lives through Japanese language and culture. Our two children, aged 3 and 5, are fluent in Japanese and attend a bilingual kindergarten during the week and a Japanese language preschool on Saturdays.

Your primary role will be to engage the children in fun, interactive activities in Japanese, such as storytelling, singing, arts and crafts, and cultural games. Additionally, you will help with light childcare tasks, including:

- Assisting with morning and evening routines (getting dressed, meals, and bedtime).
- Accompanying the children to and from kindergarten or extracurricular activities, either by car or bike.
- Encouraging tidiness and helping the children learn to organize their toys and belongings in a fun, interactive way.

If you enjoy sharing Japanese traditions, such as origami, seasonal celebrations, or simple Japanese cooking, we warmly encourage you to incorporate this into your time with the children. We are looking for a patient, creative, and responsible individual who loves working with young children and sharing their culture.
