Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Welcome! We are a well-travelled couple who are excited at the idea of having a live-in au pair from outside the UK.

This will be our first live-in au pair experience, but we know that good communication and a flexible approach will be key to making sure everyone is happy with the arrangement. We have had several nannies over the last 8 years so are experienced employers in this field as well as at our work in the Finance industry.

We have recently moved out of London to Berkshire (but still commute in to London for work) to give the children a greener upbringing and everyone a bit more space.

It's important to us to make people feel welcome in our home, and that we have a happy atmosphere with our children, each other, and you. We love getting to know new people and to learn about their stories

Job Description

We are looking for a fun, kind, responsible and organised au pair for our two lovely children. Your duties will include driving them home from school, playing, helping organise their school bags, and encouraging homework and piano practise after school.

The ideal candidate would prepare the evening meal for the family on 3 nights per week, but we are also open to only the children's food being prepared on those days.

The children are at school full time so during term time it will be wraparound care, we definitely need a morning person, as 3 days a week we will need you to be up around 6.45am and in charge of dropping the children at school by 7.45am... (you can go back to bed after that though!)

During the holidays, a few longer days per week would be great, but we're also lucky to have family who can help out too, so it wouldn't all fall on you.

We're hard working and pretty diligent, so a good fit for us is going to be someone who is proactive and motivated to do a high quality job with the children, and keep our house clean and tidy along the way. You will be "in place of mum", so running the odd errand like taking a parcel to the post office or picking up dry cleaning is also super helpful.

Accommodation

We have a large house (5 bedrooms) where the au pair can be quite separate from the rest of the family if she prefers. She will have her own bathroom in the guest area of the house.

We have the "best of both" in that we have a large garden and a villagey feel to the house, but we are 12 minutes walk from the train station in the adjacent town, which gets you into London (Paddington) in 25 minutes.

We are walkable to a supermarket and various shops in the small town of Twyford, Berks. From here you can also explore the beautiful county of Berkshire, with Henley-on-Thames a short train or drive away, as is Windsor. The City of Reading is a 7 minute train from Twyford station. We will also be able to provide you a car during your stay providing you are insurable.
