Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello and welcome!

We’re so glad you’re considering joining our family as an au pair. We are a blended, LGBTQI+ family made up of two parents—Remi and Jo—and two amazing kids: Chloe (11) and Levi (7). We live in a small, peaceful town about 30 minutes outside of downtown Ottawa, on a beautiful rural property surrounded by trees, with a pond, hot tub and a pool that we love to enjoy during the warmer months.

We’re looking for someone to help us with Chloe and Levi during the weekdays when we are working. The schedule might vary during the week since we share custody with Chloe and Levi’s dad (ie some weeks might be 3 days with them, others 5). However, your schedule would allow for plenty of free time on the other days—perfect for relaxing, exploring the area, or even traveling. That said, if you’re interested in earning a bit more, we often have extra tasks around the house that we’d be happy to discuss and coordinate with you.

One thing that’s really important to us is finding someone who can speak French with the kids as much as possible. Remi is francophone and both Chloe and Levi attend French immersion at school, but since English tends to dominate at home, we’d love your help in strengthening their French in a fun and natural way.

Inclusivity is a core value in our home, and it’s important to us that our au pair is open-minded, kind, and supportive of all families and identities. We’re excited to find someone who feels like a great fit and who can bring their own unique energy to our family life.

Looking forward to connecting with you!

Warmly,
Remi, Jo, Chloe & Levi

Job Description

Your primary responsibility will be childcare for our two kids, Chloe (11) and Levi (7), during the summer months weekdays when we are working. We’re looking for someone who can create a fun, engaging, and supportive environment for them, with a special focus on encouraging summer fun en français!

Levi has ADHD, so we’re looking for someone who is patient, understanding, and able to offer a bit of structure alongside lots of creativity and flexibility. He thrives with clear expectations, movement, and positive encouragement. Chloe is independent, creative, and loves to chat—she’ll enjoy connecting with someone who’s warm and engaging.

You won’t be expected to do major housework, but keeping the kids’ spaces tidy and encouraging them to help with that is appreciated. If you're interested in extra work (like helping with some gardening, etc.), we’re open to chatting about additional paid tasks.

Accommodation

As our au pair, you’ll have two options for where you'd like to stay, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.

Option 1:
A cozy guest room upstairs, close to the other bedrooms. There’s a full bathroom on this floor that you’d share with the kids when they’re with us. It’s a great option if you prefer being close to everything and don’t mind a little more hustle and bustle during the day.

Option 2:
A more private space in our finished basement. There is a recreation area adjacent that the kids use as a playroom during the day, but you’d have exclusive use of in the evening, giving you more room to spread out and a bit of extra privacy. There's a half bathroom in the basement, and you’d use the upstairs shower as needed.

We want you to feel comfortable and at home while you’re with us, so we’re happy to work with you to set up the space in a way that works best for your needs.
