Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hi! We are a laid back couple seeking care for our Baby Boy who is due in January of 2025! We live in the art and music-centric city of Richmond, Virginia, which is also less than a 2-hour drive to Washington, DC and Virginia Beach!

We currently live in the Carytown/ Fan district of Richmond but will be moving in the next couple months to a place with more room. (And a room for our future caretaker!) We plan to stay in this neighborhood or nearby. We are a working family and while we are by no means wealthy and live a modest lifestyle, we can offer the comforts of a clean and nicely decorated home in a convenient and cool location in town!

We live in Richmond, Virginia which is the capital of the state which is a hub for the arts, live music, tasty food, and locally brewed beer! There are many local events year round, both small and large, and plenty of large museums, parks, music venues, restaurants, and shopping within walking distance or a short bus ride.

Some notable locations include the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Hardywood Brewery, the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, the Poe Museum, The Capitol Building, Maymonth Park,The National, Carytown, VCU, and that's just to name a few.

I would consider Richmond to be a medium sized city. The Richmond City proper is 226,000 and the Metropolitan area is 1.3 million. It is a within a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive to locations such as Washington, DC, Baltimore, Charlottesville, and Virginia Beach.

There is easy access to public transportation in our area, and currently the bus is running for free in the city!

Job Description

Please note! We are currently only able to offer a position to a caretaker who does not need sponsorship through the J1 visa program, sorry!

We are seeking a caretaker to work between 30 to 40 hours per week, and while the schedule would likely change each week, we can offer at least one full weekend (and sometimes two) per month. The earliest you would be expected to start work is 7 am, and the latest would be 7pm, but the hours within that would vary. You can expect to work between 3 to 5 days per week, with at least two full days off per week.

Almost all of the duties will revolve around care for the baby. Feeding, diapering, bathing, etc. We do expect our caretaker to pitch in with the rest of us on light and basic household chores (this will NEVER include any deep cleaning or toilets, etc, don't worry. :) ) No chores will take more than 15 minutes a day to complete, and you will not be expected to do any chores on your days off, aside from keeping your own room clean.

The monthly stipend will include room and board. This includes your own bedroom, access to 3 meals a day, and basic toiletries.
