Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello Future Au Pair,
We, Ryan and Veronica, would like to invite you to be our au pair in Roanoke, Virginia. Your stay would begin in June 2022, or the next possible date, and continue for an initial one-year period or more.
We would like to tell you something about our family and where we live.
Ryan is business lawyer that is originally from New York. He likes to cook and play golf. Veronica is Spanish teacher that is originally from Romania. She loves Spanish, Latin music and eating Ryan’s great cooking! Liam is our 5-year-old son that loves reading and playing with his toys. He also plays golf with Ryan every weekend. Our newest family addition is another boy, James , born April 16. We also have a 7-year-old dog name Rocco who loves attention and walks.
Since Ryan’s family is still in New York and Veronica’s family is still in Europe, we need some help with our growing family. We are looking for an au pair who loves kids and genuinely enjoys spending time with them, engaging them, playing with them, who is reliable and flexible and also an excellent driver. At first, we are looking for help with Liam. He is in pre-school 5 days a week, but needs help getting dressed, having breakfast, packing a lunch and dropping-off/picking-up from school, and then doing his laundry, cleaning his dishes, preparing his meals, reading books, going to parks and playing. Liam should be encouraged to help with household tasks, including picking up his toys and clothes. Liam is very well behaved and very sweet. He is also bilingual in Romanian and English. Veronica also needs support with the baby (feeding, holding him, walking with him, playing with him, bathing) at certain times during the day, so she can take care of other household duties or take some time to rest.
The city in which we live has about 100,000 people and is in the mountains of Virginia. Virginia is a southern state in the middle of the east coast of United States, so the weather is generally warmer.

Roanoke is about 3.5 hours driving southwest of Washington D.C., which is the closest large city. There are also trains that go to Washington, D.C. every day. We like going to Washington a few times a year to visit the museums, restaurants, and other attractions. We also drive to the beach a few times each summer, which is about 5 hours away. We hope to bring you with us for at least 2-4 vacations.
We have a large, recently renovated home that is within walking distance to shopping, coffee shops, a movie theatre, restaurants, and parks. The 3rd floor of our house is perfect for an au pair. It is a suite with its own full bathroom, a large bedroom, king size bed and a sitting area. This will provide a very comfortable and private living space.
We are very excited to welcome an au pair into our family who is interested in teaching us and our children about her culture. We also look forward to teaching the au pair about life in the United States and practicing English. Since Veronica’s 3rd language is English (she speaks native level Romanian and Spanish), she will be a great help to a Spanish speaking au pair that is still mastering English.
Although spending time with the family is important, we also think it is very important for an au pair to make friends and have a social life outside the family, so we will respect your time off and encourage you to connect with other people in the community and go out with friends.
We are very excited to welcome you as a family member and learn more about you and your culture!
Please let us know if you have any questions.
