Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

We’re so excited that you’re considering joining our family. We live in Rolleston — a safe and friendly town just 25 minutes from Christchurch city centre by car or train. It’s a lovely mix of quiet neighbourhoods and great local amenities, perfect for families.

Rolleston is small, but it has a regular express bus service direct to Christchurch. We’ll also provide a vehicle for local transport (for school drop-offs and after-school activities), and we may be able to accommodate personal use, e.g., weekend trips or holidays too.

We’re looking forward to welcoming someone who’s warm, responsible, and enjoys spending time with kids. Zoe and Max are full of energy, imagination, and curiosity — we think you’ll love getting to know them.

Job Description

We’re looking for someone who can help in the mornings with school drop-off (from around 7:30am to 8:30am), as well as school pickup and after-school care. This includes light meal prep, homework help, and taking the kids to after-school activities (they currently do horse riding and swimming lessons). Some light household tasks — like tidying up after play or folding laundry — would also be appreciated.

Typical weekday hours are from 2:50pm (school pickup) until around 5:30–6:00pm, with the occasional later evening (e.g., 7:00pm) if we’re travelling for work or similar commitments.

You’ll have your own room and plenty of downtime during the day, with weekends off (you’re very welcome to join us on family outings if you’d like). We’ll do our best to accommodate any study or personal interests you have. Driving is essential, but we’ll provide a vehicle.

Tam has about 15 weeks off each year in 1–2 week blocks — great opportunities for you to explore New Zealand if you’re keen on travel!

Accommodation

You’ll have your own comfortable bedroom with plenty of natural light, garden views, storage, and privacy. The bathroom is shared with the kids and any guests. Our home has fast, unlimited Wi-Fi throughout, and you’re welcome to use it freely. We want you to feel at home and have a space where you can relax and unwind.

We have a large section with a vegetable garden, orchard, berry patch, playground, native plants, and lawns. There’s also a great indoor-outdoor living space for you to enjoy.
