As first-time expectant parents, we don’t know what our son will need on a day-to-day basis. With Brian working from home, we hope to have an arrangement where the au pair can watch our son for 5-6 hours each weekday while Brian works. This would include feeding/preparing food for the baby, changing diapers, reading to him, and playing with him during this time. As time goes on this could include things like taking him to the park or other small outings. The au pair will have access to a car, but we don’t anticipate needing her to drive the baby around. Given Brian’s flexible work from home schedule, we can easily work around a school schedule for the au pair. We would occasionally ask for limited help on a weekend day to allow us a few hours to run errands or work out. We have a cleaning service that comes weekly which will continue to clean the nursey and the au pair’s room. We would ask for some light help from the au pair in cleaning up after the baby (toys, food spills, etc.) in between cleaning service visits. Because Megan works out of the home, we hope to continue to be able to prepare meals in our kitchen for family meal time which will naturally include the au pair.
