Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hi, My wife Karen is a lovely 62 year old women who unfortunately has early onset alzheimer's. She is very sweet and fun to be around - but has memory issues. The caregiver would live with us and provide occasional care - essentially sharing that duty with me.

We live in Santa Barbara, CA USA about half the year and in Jackson, WY USA the other half. We also do travel somewhat from time to time. Generally, we are in WY in the winter and summer and in CA in the spring and fall. The care giver would travel and reside with us in both locations.

We would want the caregiver to be very fluent in English. However, we both are learning Italian and a caregiver that knows the language would be a wonderful plus.

Job Description

Her care currently includes appropriate nutrition (Mediterranean or DASH diet), frequent exercise, and mind exercises (reading, word puzzles, etc.). We would expect the caregiver to prepare some of the meals - so familiarity with cooking and both diets would be good. The caregiver would also do some housekeeping, help with planning and directing physical and mental exercises, run errands, go with Karen to hair/nail appointments, and generally be a companion. Karen can bathe and dress herself without problem.

Karen does not drive any more - so the caregiver would need to be a conscientious safe driver. We of course will provide a car for that purpose.
