Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hi! My name is Mireia and I'm 33 years old.

We are new to this au pair experience! We are taking a look to see if it is something that can fit our family. As you can see on my profile, we have 3 young kids aged 6, 4 and 2. Actually, when summer comes they will be 7, 4 and 3!

I work at a seasonal hotel (only opens 6 months a year) so I work long hours in summer and spend more time with the kids in winter. Even though my husband is a college teacher and he has more free time during summer, he also has some office work. So we thought about getting an au pair to help the kids, with the added bonus of them learning English too.

That is why it makes sense to us to have an au pair in July and August, which are the months that the kids are off from school. But we could be open to extending it from June -middle June- up until the end of September. It is something we could discuss further.

My mother is British so English is my third language (at home we are bilingual: Catalan and Spanish). My husband speaks good English too. The kids don't speak English but I believe they understand it more than they let me know! We aim to improve their understanding and speaking with your help! Therefore a native English speaker is a must for us!

An important thing to know is that CATALAN is our first language at home but we usually mix Catalan and Spanish a lot. And, of course, we always switch to Spanish or English with someone who does not speak Catalan.

For now, we are just considering the option of getting an au pair. Our final decision will be based on the importance of finding someone that we love for our kids. We'd need to get to know the final candidate before deciding for sure.

! ! ! About POCKET MONEY: we put on our profile the standard pay for Spain according to aupair.com, but it can be debatable.

Job Description

Our plan (still not 100% decided) is probably to take the 2 boys (7 & 4 YO) to summer schools in the mornings most of the summer. Our youngest goes to kindergarten from 9h - 15h up until 18th July. After the 18th, she'll be home all day, as she's too young for summer school. We still want thew boys to be home too for some time (no summer school); maybe 2 or 3 weeks during the summer. So we will need to adapt your schedule when they are in summer school and when they are not. But these details we will sort out together.

We'd like the kids to spend some time outside every day. Spending time in the garden or taking them to the park, beach or others. We could plan some weekly activities together!

IMPORTANT!! We need the person to have a driving license and to feel comfortable driving the kids to summer school with our van (big car). We live near a small town (Santa Susanna) and school, beach, parks, shops are not within a small walking distance (it can be done walking but not with 3 young kids). We will also let you borrow the car in your free time if needed.

Accommodation

We live in an urbanization outside the town in a new and modern house. It is not very far from the town center but, as we live on a very steep slope, it is not easy walking distance with 3 young kids. But it can be done, it is more a less a 10 min walk.

The perk of leaving uphill is that we have amazing sea views from all rooms of the house (including the au pair's, of course :) ).

Our home is divided into 2 floors:

On the 1st floor, we have a big common space with an open kitchen, dining space and living room. There is a bathroom and a big playroom for the kids.

On the 2nd floor, we have 3 big rooms. Our room has an inside bathroom and the other 2 rooms share another bathroom. The kids share a room so the free room will be for you. Our idea is that the kids might use our bathroom when they are upstairs. This way, you will have a bathroom practically for your own. We will try to make them understand this, as they are used to using it every day. But this would be the idea!
