Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear future Au Pair ;)

we are a small family of four, consisting of our little daughters Antonia (1.5 years old), Emilia (3 years old), my wife Maggie (37 years) and myself (38 years). We live in Bavaria in the south of Germany in a city of 50.000 people. I work as a software developer and Maggie is a teacher on a nearby school. Maggie was at home now for 2 years after Antonias birth and will start to work again in 2020. We also have a lovely dog, a female Collie named Luna, and a horse named Vienchen, that also belong to our familiy.

Therefore, we are looking for YOU, an open-hearted, reliable and loving Au Pair, who wants to take care for our little daughters, who wants to get to know Germany, its people and culture, and who wants to feel like a familiy member with us.

We are searching for someone, who can speak German at least at an A1 level and who wants to improve his/her German while staying at us. Emilia is now at an age where she wants to interact also a lot through speech/language when playing, so this is a very important thing for us.

We ourselves also speak English, so it would be a plus if you can also speak English, but it's by no means necessary, as we also had a previous au-pair (a 20 year old girl from Poland) who could not speak English and German only at A1 level, but we were able to communicate anyway and she improved her German fast.
At the moment we have an au pair from Taiwan.

Our house is located in a residential area about 1.5 km from the city center. You will have your own room and your own bathroom. Next to our home is the Danube river recreational area, where there are a lot of possibilities to go biking, running or walking. Nearly all places of interest are located within a 5-10 min distance by bike, like the oldtown with stores and shopping centre, the train station, library, zoo, theatre, cinema, fitness studio, water park, etc.

In our free time we love to go hiking, cycling, going to the water-park or to the Zoo or do something fun with the children and to visit friends and families. Because our families live in different parts of Bavaria, we are often at the weekend at or near different cities like Würzburg, Nürnberg, Erlangen or Bamberg. Other close friends live in Austria, Munich or Berlin. We therefore love to go to trips mostly over the weekend to visit them or just go see new cities or to popular sights. So we can provide you with many opportunities for getting to know our country, the culture, the language and to see lots of interesting places. And of course, we also want to getting to know you and learn something about your country and your culture, too.

Your work time will be mostly from Monday to Friday and is typically 4-6 hours per day or about 30 hrs per week. At the weekends you usually have one and a half day off, so you can do something on your own.

Your main duty will be to take care of Emilia and Antonia, like eating with them, playing with them, go on a walk with them or dressing them, but also like changing diapers or bathing them. Some part of your time will be doing some easy housework, e.g. like vacuuming the area where Emilia and Antonia play.

In general, we would like you to feel like a family member. We don’t want you to just do your duties and then just stay at your room, because then this doesn’t feel like a family to us. So we are searching for someone, who also wants to regulary spend time with us a family. In return, we will support you in any way we can in improving your German language skills, and help you to get to know our country, culture and its people.

So, we are looking for a person, who is fun, adventuresome, somewhat sporty and interested in new things. You should also be very reliable and honest. You like little children and are taking care of them in a loving way. If you have experience caring for little children, that would be perfect, but it is not necessary (at some point one must learn everything for the first time ;). You should be well organized and are able (after a certain adaptation phase) to do work in your own responsibility (we will support you of course if you have any questions at any point).

If that sounds like the person that you are, and if we sound like a family with which you like to stay, we would be happy to hear from you.

We are looking forward to getting to know you!

Job Description

Your workday begins Monday through Friday at 7:00 a.m. You wake Emilia, wash her and dress her. After breakfast you will take the girls to the kindergarten. When you get home, you usually do some light housework like vacuuming or washing dishes. After that you usually have free time. After lunch you pick up Emilia and Antonia from the kindergarten at 13:30. Emilia usually sleeps about 1-2 hours at home. From about 15:00 until dinner you play with the girls at home, take them to the playground, go for a walk or a ride with Maggie and the children to the horse, etc.

Your work time during a day will be typically 4-6 hours and about 30 hrs for a whole week.

At the weekends you usually have one and a half day off, so you can do something on your own or you are always invited to do something together with us.

Your main duty will be to take care of Emilia and Antonia, like eating with them, playing with them, go on a walk with them or dressing them, but also like changing diapers or bathing them. Some part of your time will be doing some easy housework, e.g. like vacuuming the area where Emilia and Antonia play.

In the first weeks we will do all the work together and help you, so that you can do it at some point on your own. So you don't need to be afraid when you haven't fed a small child yet, we will learn that together with you ;) As either me or Maggie is typically in the house, you will not be completely alone and so you can always come to me or her whenever you need help with something.

In general, we would like you to feel like a family member and that you also spend some of your free time for example at the weekends with us. We don’t want you to just do your duties and then just stay at your room, because then this doesn’t feel like a family to us. We also want to help you to get to know the German language and culture, the country and its people. In return we want to get to know you and learn about your country and culture.

If that sounds like the person that you are, and if we sound like a family with which you like to stay, we would be happy to hear from you.
