Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

***WE HAVE FOUND OUR AU PAIR UNTIL SUMMER 2025. WE WILL BE BACK. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL***

Hello!

We are an American family living in Germany looking for you to join our family for one year in August 2024. We have been hosting au pairs for seven years an love our kids to be cared by a “big sister” when we can’t be with them. We are looking to find a child-loving au pair and we embrace the cultural exchange.

You will normally care for the kids 20-25 hours per week (Monday though Friday). Mornings getting them to school/afternoons picking up/taking them to sport or German lessons. We will rarely ask you to watch them at night or weekends. So you will have plenty of time to travel and enjoy your alone time!

We are looking for a strong, confident driver and this is NOT negotiable because you will be driving the most precious cargo.

I hope you also love dogs. We have two boxers but you will not be required to take care of them. Maybe just let them outside from time to time.

We look forward to meeting you and having you as part of our family!

Best!

Job Description

**Note—Because we are Americans living in Germany, we cannot sponsor you for a visa, so if you need a visa to live Germany, we cannot host you**

The schedule is pretty consistent. Monday through Friday from about 0630-0730 and 1400-1700.

Morning routine is getting the kids fed breakfast and dressed for school. You will take a short walk to school for all 3 kids in the village and leave the house at 0720.

The kids are in aftercare until 1400 and come home to do homework and get a snack. Depending on the day, they will need to be driven to an activity: soccer, gymnastics or German lessons.

Host mom is usually home in the morning until about 0700 and Dad gets home earlier to help driving to afternoon activities. He cooks dinner between 1700-1730 on weekdays.

I would like you to help with kids’ laundry and keeping their rooms tidy and organized. Host mom is very neat and clean and we expect you to clean up after yourself and make sure the kids clean up after themselves (when you are watching them). We have a maid come every other week to do the deep cleaning.

The languages are somewhat negotiable; because you'll be helping them with their German homework and talking with the school at times, it's helpful to have working knowledge of German. We speak English at home, so your English will improve quickly!
