Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Originally translated from Deutsch
*** Mom, dad and 3 children (6, 4, 0 years) from a southern German village are looking for an au pair, preferably a Russian-speaking one! ***

Dear au pair,

we are a family of five who live in a village near Schwäbisch Gmünd. We are rather introverted, quiet and rational. Can you imagine living in a German village (almost 2000 inhabitants) for 6 to 12 months - in a house that was built almost 400 years ago? Are you good with small children and are you loving and patient? Then the stars are aligned that we are a good match!

Since life with three small children is often stressful and in order to give the children another loving caregiver, we are looking for help with childcare in the form of an au pair from around May 2025 for a period of 6 to 12 months. If Russian is your native language, that would be fantastic so that the children can learn Russian.
Information for Russian au pairs: Since the waiting times at the German embassy in Moscow are currently very long, the whole process could take 1 year until the entry date. But that is not a problem for us.

Our life takes place primarily here in the village. We like it much better here than in the city. We buy our groceries here, the children go to gymnastics and music lessons here. That is why we think that someone who likes a village environment with lots of forest and meadows could feel at home here. It is great for walking or cycling here.

Activities:
- There is a sports club in the village where you can get involved in football, volleyball, gymnastics and Nordic walking.
- At the music club you can learn an instrument such as French horn, trombone, clarinet, trumpet, flugelhorn, tuba, flute, piccolo, tenor horn, saxophone, drums, timpani, bongo drum.
- Play tennis in the tennis club
- The hiking club offers a three-hour hike once a month.
- 5 km or 20 minutes away by bike: horse riding at the horse farm
- 6 minutes away by bus: swimming pool, Tai Chi, possibly Jiu Jitsu, shooting club
- Many different courses at the adult education center can be reached by bus

Our relatives in a nearby village also have an au pair who you could contact, for example for excursions in your free time.

You can improve your German language skills with us and, for example, learn to cook a few German dishes if you want. We would also be happy to learn something from you! We look forward to seeing you and the cultural exchange with you!

Thank you very much for your time and for reading the whole, long letter.

(Our premium membership runs until April 15, 2025. We have the opportunity to respond until then. Feel free to write to us :))

About us:
Dad is an engineer, mom is currently at home, so all children are currently being looked after entirely at home. Our oldest child will start school in September 2025.

Dad is interested in technology, mom is interested in gardening, books and methods of loving parenting ("attachment parenting"). Since the children are still so small, we are not going on vacation at the moment, but if a vacation were planned, you would of course be welcome to come along.

We are rather quiet, introverted and rational by nature. We want to find the balance between you being a member of our family and at the same time respecting your free time and your privacy. We are always open to your concerns and ask you to speak to us directly if there is something on your mind. We will also do our best to maintain an open and honest relationship with you.

Job Description

Originally translated from Deutsch
Do you already have experience looking after small children? Important skills on your part: reliable, responsible, punctual, honest, and above all a lot of patience and a loving approach to small children. Basic German skills (A1) are important for the interview at the German embassy regarding the visa.

Your tasks would be to work at set times (e.g. Monday to Friday 7:00 to 10:30 and Monday to Thursdayag 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturdays 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.), a total of 30 hours per week to help with childcare and smaller household chores (e.g. cleaning up with the children after playing, emptying the dishwasher, setting the breakfast table, cooking from time to time (if you want), hanging up laundry, putting laundry away, feeding the cats). We have cats, but they only live outside; they have their own room in the barn.
A healthy lifestyle is important to us: healthy eating and little screen time. We also want to convey this to the children. That's why you shouldn't use your smartphone during your working hours.

Our expectations are that by dividing the care of the children between mom, dad and the au pair, the children always have someone who has time for them. This helps us so that the children can grow up with loving upbringing. A side effect could be that dad or mom finally finds time for things that have been left undone so far, e.g. finally making photo albums for the children, having more time for the housework, gardening, gymnastics, hobbies and so on.
Since mom is currently at home full-time, you would mostly help with looking after our toddler and/or preschool child, so you would usually have a contact person on site as an additional security. It is not normally planned that you look after all 3 children at the same time, but the two younger ones.

What else you can expect from us:
- Subsidy for the language course of 70 euros per month
- Health insurance
- Germany ticket for buses and local trains
- Enablement to attend a first aid course and babysitting course

Accommodation

Originally translated from Deutsch
Our apartment is in a house that was built almost 400 years ago. Maybe, like us, you like old houses and the stories they tell? Since firewood used to be very valuable, our rooms are all small and therefore quicker to heat. Your room is 8 square meters in size (bed, desk chair, folding desk on the wall, closet). WiFi connection is available. The room is heated by a night storage heater and of course it is lockable - we respect your privacy. The room is currently being renovated, pictures will follow from spring 2025. All of our living spaces are on the same floor as your room. Family and au pair share a bathroom (with shower, but no bathtub) and toilet.
