Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Welcome to our family! We are so thrilled to have you join us here in Shanghai and become an integral part of our lives. We truly appreciate the journey you are about to embark on and the effort you’ve made to be here with us. Let us introduce ourselves and share a little about what life will look like as part of our family.
We are a family of 3 living in the heart of Shanghai, including our 3-month-old baby boy. My wife and I both graduated from the top 3 universities in China, have professional backgrounds, and worked for Fortune 500 companies of the US, Germany, France, and Japan. We both studied and worked in Europe before, giving us a deep appreciation for cross-cultural experiences. We enjoy learning languages, exploring new cultures, and spending quality time as a family.
Both my wife and I have studied other languages in the past—she learned German, and I have studied Spanish, Japanese, and Italian. However, without the right environment to practice, we quickly lost fluency in these languages. This experience has shown us how important it is to create a strong language-learning environment early on, which is why we hope to provide our child with opportunities to learn and thrive in a multilingual setting from a young age.
Our home is located in Xuhui District, the city center of Shanghai, close to many exciting attractions, cultural landmarks, and convenient public transportation. Shanghai is a city full of energy, history, and diversity, and we hope you will enjoy exploring it as much as we do.
As our Au Pair, your primary responsibilities will include helping us care for our child and engaging with him in meaningful ways to give him some exposure to a third language besides English and Chinese as his mother tongue. This may include assisting with daily routines, talking to the baby, sharing fun and educational activities. We are excited for you to share your culture and language with him, just as we are eager to share our culture with you.
Your well-being is very important to us. You will have your own private room in our home, along with access to Wi-Fi and other amenities to ensure your comfort. We encourage open communication and want you to feel at home while you’re with us. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if there’s anything you need or if there are ways we can make your stay more enjoyable.
In your free time, we hope you will take the opportunity to explore Shanghai and immerse yourself in the local culture. There are countless sights to see, from the Bund’s historic waterfront to the bustling streets of the French Concession. We’ll be happy to share our favorite spots and help you navigate the city.
We understand that this experience is as much about your personal growth as it is about being part of our family. We are committed to creating an environment that is supportive, inclusive, and filled with opportunities for learning and connection.
Once again, welcome to our family! We are looking forward to getting to know you better and making wonderful memories together. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns before your arrival.
Warm regards,
Ray
