Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello! Welcome!

I am Brenda and I can speak English quiet fluently, so you have nothing to worry about to live with our family. I will try my best to make you feel at home. We want to find someone who is a native English speaker to live with us so that my son, Lucas, can acquire English at home. If you want to learn Chinese, experience Chinese culture, meet Chinese families, and travel around southern China, we will be your best choice. You will have a lot of free time to do whatever you like. You will have the opportunity to study Chinese and Chinese culture in the best local university. You will be a family member of us, and I can't wait to meet you!

You must be a native English speaker, preferably not a vegetarian. If you are also fluent in French or Spanish, that will be better. I also hope that you'd better be a student under the age of 26. We do not accept au pairs who began to learn English when they go to school. We welcom au pairs whose family are all native English speakers.

I think this is not a paid job even if I will pay you pocket money. And I will not expect you to do any housework! You do not need to do any babysitting job. I only have one child(he is going to be five years old in November) and his grandma will take care of him all the time, including the housework.

Due to the Chinese visa regulation, I can only offer you these two options below: Contact me if you are interested and tell me which option you prefer! Otherwise, you can only stay in China for a month which is too short.

From August 2023 to January 2024: stay in China for 6 months with a student visa, but you have to attend a 16-week Chinese course at the best university in Shenzhen, and it is not an online course. The university is not very far form my home and you can travel by bus. The course is usually at 8:30-11:30am from Monday to Friday and you are free in the afternoon(Lucas comes home at 5pm). The student visa will cost you about 100 pounds. You will need to cover your own travel cost (You'd better fly to Hong Kong, it's very convenient to get to Shenzhen from the Hong Kong airport and I can pick you up) and I will cover your tuition fee for the language course which is about 1000 pounds. I will also offer you pocket money of 350 pounds per month, 2100 pounds for 6 months. You do not need to pay for anything else when you are here including eating out or traveling with us.

From August 2023 to July 2024: stay in China for 12 months with a student visa, but you have to attend two 16-week Chinese courses (two semesters in a year) at the best university in Shenzhen, but you can decide whether to attend the second semester's course after you finish the first one. It is not an online course. The university is not very far form my home and you can travel by bus. The course is usually at 8:30-11:30am from Monday to Friday and you are free in the afternoon(Lucas comes home at 5pm). The student visa will cost you about 100 pounds for each semester. You will need to cover your own travel cost from your city to Hong Kong, it's very convenient to get to Shenzhen and I can pick you up there, and I will cover your return ticket (from Hong Kong to your country). I will also cover your tuition fee for the language course which is about 1000 pounds for each semester,2000 pounds altogether. I will also offer you pocket money of 350 pounds per month, 4200 pounds for 12 months. You do not need to pay for anything else when you are here including eating out or traveling with us.

I just want you to be a family member for a few months or even years: eat with us, hang out with us, do sports with us and most importantly, talk with us. By the way, during the school hours on weekdays, sometimes you will go to attend the language course, the classes are typically in the morning from Monday to Friday, in the afternoon, you can do whatever you like. But it is only for 16 weeks. For the rest of the time, you are free to do anything. We expect you to be with us for most of the weekends, holidays and time after school everyday. I can help you arrange some activities during the day if you like.

I am very open-minded and easygoing. So I also want to find an Au Pair like this. I hope you are good at communication, love children, and like Chinese culture very much. I think your interest in China is very, very important because it will make your experience more enjoyable. I don't know what you know about China, but I want you to experience the life of a real Chinese. We don't know much about religious beliefs, because most Chinese people have no religions. I also hope that our way of life will not offend some of your habits.

You can find out videos of Shenzhen to know more about our city. Life in our city is probably the most convenient and modern in the world. China is developing very fast and Shenzhen is also a very dynamic city. Our city is one of the four biggest cities in China. Shenzhen is also next to Hong Kong and is a coastal city. We live near the city centre and it only takes five minutes to walk to the nearest bus stop or subway station. We also often drive or take taxis to go around. We can go to the biggest stadium or numerous beautiful parks to do some sports. We can also go to various tourist attractions or hang out in different shopping centres to kill time. Life here in Shenzhen is very colorful. Hope you enjoy your life here.

At the same time, I also hope that during the experience we live together, Lucas and I can become friends with you, and both of us can learn about your culture and country through this experience, which is also very interesting for us. Of course, most importantly, I want Lucas to speak English fluently. We speak Chinese at home, and you can learn Chinese from us. We speak Mandarin, not other local dialects.

So our expectations of you, mainly focus on your character. As I have mentioned above, we do not expect you to do any housework. We just hope that you are good-natured, willing to communicate with us, and participate in our family activities, such as going for a walk after dinner, going to the park, going to the mall or supermarket, dinning out, and going to the amusement parks, the zoo and various surrounding attractions on weekends. Of course, if you like, I can also arrange some excursions with us. We don't need you to pay for anything when we go out together, and I'll pay you pocket money.

Lucas is a four-year-old boy and he is turning five this autumn. He goes to school from Monday to Friday, so he will be at home only after 5pm everyday. He will have a summer holiday in August. Believe it or not, he is really smart and cute. He knows many English words and can sing a lot of English songs. It is not very difficult to communicate with him in English. He is very outgoing so he will be willing to play with you. His favorate hobby is playing soccer, playing with car toys and reading books.

I am Lucas's mom and you can call me Brenda. I am a teacher at an international high school and I work from 7am to 6pm. After work during the week days or on weekends, I can teach you Chinese or we can hang out together. Lucas's father is a manager in a big company so he is very busy for most of the time. We also live with Lucas's grandma who is very healthy and nice. She will take care of Lucas and will do most of the housework. Lucas's father and grandma are not very good at English.

I have updated some photos of my home in my profile. You can have your own bedroom, but your bathroom need to be shared with grandma. Our couple and Lucas have another bathroom. Our family does not eat breakfast and lunch at home because of school and work. In the morning and at noon, only grandma may eat at home. If you like the food she cooks, you can eat with her. Otherwise you will have to cook by yourself. That's up to you. In the evening Lucas and I will come home for dinner, and you can have dinner with us too. Our family often have common Chinese food. We are all northerners and like to eat northern Chinese food. You can also cook by yourself if you like. You can have all the food in the refrigerator for free, but if you have any special preferences, you can also buy food by yourself. Food is not expensive in China. Chinese takeout is so convenient, you will find that you don't need to go out at all, the food and beverages or all kinds of ingredients you want, or the delicious meals that are ready, will be delivered to you in 40 minutes and it's not expensive at all.

If you have any needs, I can try my best to help you.
