Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hi there,

My name is Rana, and my husband Dan and I have a blended family with four children: Tristan (19), Caitlin (17), Sevim (14), and Christopher, who is turning 7 in July.

Tristan and Caitlin are Dan’s children from his previous marriage. Tristan lives in our guesthouse while attending university and is heading into his third year. Caitlin lives full-time with her mom. Sevim is my daughter from my first marriage—she lives with us full-time and visits her dad every other week. Christopher is our youngest, and he’s full of energy and imagination!

We live in a beautiful countryside home, about a 15-minute drive from Waterloo, Ontario. There is no access to public transportation in our area, so we prefer candidates who have a valid driver’s license or an international driver’s license. If you’re taking language classes in Waterloo, we’re happy to help with transportation if needed.

Dan and I are both busy professionals and are looking for someone to support us with afterschool care for Christopher, as well as occasional help on weekends.

Job Description

We're looking for someone with exceptional skills in working with children—someone who connects deeply, engages thoughtfully, and adapts to each child’s unique needs.

Ours is not a "Because I said so" household. We believe in understanding our kids, guiding them with empathy, and supporting their emotional and imaginative growth. Christopher, our son, is a deeply emotionally aware child, and we’re looking for someone who can truly connect with him and meet him where he is.

The role also includes light housekeeping and occasional travel with us to our family cottage and visits to Ottawa, Ontario.

If we had to sum it up in one line:
We’re looking for someone who is naturally attuned to children, who nurtures their minds and imagination, and who sees themselves as part of the family—someone our kids can trust, love, and grow with.
