Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Looking for a mature au pair...

We have 3 children, our eldest is in kindy at school this year, 2020, (6yr old), a 4 yr old and 1 yr old. Our daughter (currently 4) will be starting school next year in 2021- so 2 children at school and one child at home in 2021.
We have just started our search for our second au pair starting 2020. We are trying to learn Spanish, so would love someone who can speak fluent Spanish to help the children learn (but not necessary),
We live an hour out of Sydney but only 20 minute drive to the train station to get to most places around Sydney within an hour on the train. So a valid international drivers licence is a must. We are also reasonably close to the blue mountains.
We live on 12 acres and have chickens and cows and lots of space. My husband and I are both school teachers. (I’ll be working 3 days each week).

Job Description

Duties would include walking our daughter up to preschool and looking after our bubba boy. (Our daughter attends preschool monday and tuesdays.) You would have the youngest two in care all day on a Wednesday and some of Thursday. You will be required to walk our eldest to the bus stop (in front of our house) to be picked up before school, and either meet him there after school, or collect him from school - pending the kids after school extra curricular activities.
Vacuum/mopping to be done once a week, assistance with meals and washing when I am working, general tidying of children’s things. We want someone who knows how to contribute as part of a team, part of our family, empty dishwasher when it is full, take the bin out when it is over flowing (all the little bits and pieces), and not just on work days, but as a member of the family we all need to pitch in for the household chores.
You would have Friday’s and weekends off, and shorter work hours on Thursdays. I will also require assistance getting the kids to activities after school hours on Monday-Wednesday, so it is important you are a confident driver.
On special events if needed for extra baby sitting on a weekend or Friday night, time would be given free earlier in the wk to accommodate, but plenty of notice would be given. We are always happy to negotiate a Thursday off if needed for some extra travel on occasion or pay extra if extra care is needed on the weekends.
Since we are both school teachers you have two weeks vacation every 10 wks (school holidays), so we are happy to pay you half pay every holidays when you stay at the house and you would be required to do the chores and minimal child minding duties. you are welcome to join us if we are going away on vacation for no pay (but get a holiday with food and accommodation included) and we would not expect you to be on child minding duty but would contribute to the holiday as a member of the family and needs.
During the holiday period, if home we still expect assistance with the household chores and organisation, and we may ask you to look after the children here or there. If you travel alone in vacation periods it would be without pay for that duration.
Our au pair needs to be able to build a good trust with the kids, be able to love them and be proactive around the house and responsible. But also we would like our au pair to be able to communicate with us their needs and expectations of what they want out of the experience so we can accommodate them too. It needs to be a two way relationship.
Proactive is a must, we really need someone who enjoys house hold chores and cleanliness and doesn't need to be asked to do things, someone who is attentive to details, and mess.We want a motivated worker, this is not just a babysitting job but a second mother in the house who can step up and help out with all the daily tasks I can't do when I am at work.
