Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Future Au Pair

From the far north of Scotland!

We’re a small, loving family living in the beautiful countryside of Caithness, where the skies are big, the air is fresh, the weather is unpredictable and life moves at a peaceful, steady pace. We are looking for someone kind, caring, and open-hearted to come and join us as part of our family and share in our everyday life.

We are Mike and Isla, and our pride and joy is our daughter, Poppy May, a bright and curious little girl full of fun and personality. She’s full of energy and loves the outdoors—whether that’s helping with the horses, running around the garden, or playing with our small, friendly dog Jura who is never far from her side.

We live in a rural area, so a love for nature, animals, and a quieter lifestyle is essential. Our home is surrounded by open countryside, and we keep a few horses and some cows, who are very much part of our family life. If you have an interest in horses or are comfortable around them, that would be a wonderful bonus. We would love to find someone who enjoys the outdoors as much as we do, and who is happy to muck in—sometimes quite literally!

As an Au Pair, you’d mainly be helping us with day-to-day childcare, light household tasks, and becoming a big sister-type figure to Poppy May. In return, we offer a welcoming and supportive home, plenty of fresh air, time to explore the local area, and a true experience of Scottish rural life.

We know that moving to a new country and living with a new family is a big step, and we’re here to make that journey as warm and comfortable as possible. We're excited to meet someone who is thoughtful, responsible, and genuinely enjoys spending time with children.

Job Description

Provide gentle and attentive care to our daughter, Poppy May

Support with feeding, nappy changes, and settling for naps

Engage in age-appropriate play and developmental activities

Let Jura out into the garden as needed

Assist with light household tasks (e.g. tidying up toys, folding laundry, loading/unloading the dishwasher and washing machine)

Occasionally help with meal prep or keeping the kitchen tidy
