Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear future au pair,

We are looking for you to care for our two children, Romy (4 years old) and Leon (2 years old). We are a loving, happy family living in a large and beautiful apartment in the city of Traunstein (population 20,000), about 10 km from Lake Chiemsee. From here, it is 30 minutes to Salzburg and an hour to Munich. We live a few minutes' walk from the train station, where both trains and buses depart. It is less than a 10-minute walk to the city center and the language school.

Since both my husband and I work, we are looking for you to help us take care of Romy and Leon. Light household chores are also part of your duties. My husband has Croatian roots, and our children are being raised bilingually. Romy attends kindergarten and Leon goes to daycare. We are looking for an open, warm-hearted person who would like to share everyday life with us.

You will have a beautiful, bright room with access to your own balcony and a private bathroom. The children need to be prepared in the morning and taken to daycare/kindergarten, and picked up and looked after in the afternoon around 4 PM until I get home. Since my husband works in Munich during the week, I need additional help in the evenings to get the children ready for bed and to tidy up the apartment from the daily chaos. :-) As order and cleanliness are important to us, we are looking for a tidy and clean person as well. Typically, we are both home on weekends, so you will have this time off. Occasionally, we would appreciate support on weekends so my husband and I can have some couple time together. This would be arranged with you in advance.

We want you to feel comfortable and welcome with us. I was an au pair myself, so I can empathize with how it feels to join an unfamiliar family. We will make it nice for you. :-)

Job Description

The most important thing for us is a loving approach to our children. Romy and Leon are sweet, happy, and lively kids who enjoy spending time with others.

Your main tasks will include getting the children ready in the morning, preparing their snacks, and taking them to daycare/kindergarten by 8:15/8:30 AM. Both kids attend the same facility, which is 1.5 km away and easily reachable on foot. After that, you have free time until the children need to be picked up in the afternoon between 3 and 4 PM. You will then look after them until I get home (between 6:30 and 7:00 PM) and help me get them ready for bed and tidy up the apartment. If you enjoy cooking, you are welcome to do so. Otherwise, the children have a warm meal at lunchtime, and a simple snack is enough for dinner. Currently, both Niksa and I work full-time, but I plan to reduce my working hours so that I can take over the afternoon care one or two days a week. I would like to go to the gym one evening and occasionally meet a friend, which we would arrange with you in advance.

You will generally have weekends off. If you wish, you can stay in the apartment in Munich where Niksa stays during the week. Occasionally, Niksa and I would like some couple time on the weekend, which we would also arrange with you in advance.

Accommodation

You will have a beautiful, bright room with access to our second balcony, which you can use for yourself. You will also have your own bathroom. The bathtub for the children, as well as the dryer and washing machine, are located in this bathroom.

Of course, we also have Wi-Fi with sufficient GBIT for downloading and streaming.
