Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello,
We are a family of four: Damien and Julie (parents, both 35 years old) and our daughters Leïa (6 years old) and Ariel (3 years old).
We would love to welcome you to our home to help us during a time of year when Damien is working so hard that we hardly see him, and I'm alone and need help.
We are a family very open to international cultures. We are bilingual family in English and French. My husband speaks à little english. We are mainly extroveted familly, but we love also some peace and quiet. Everything is about balance right?

We are looking for an au pair who was born in an English-speaking country and whose native language is English. We would like to give our daughters the opportunity to become fluent in English.

We invite you to come and stay with us from May-June to October-November. It's such a wonderful time to be in our region and to enjoy the outdoors. Within a 1-hour drive maximum, you have the sea, mountains, rivers, ochre landscapes, Provençal villages, and cities (Avignon, Nimes, Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Montpellier).
We live in Provence surrounded by vineyards in the Vaucluse region, outside a village renowned for its wines.

We're asking our au pair to come be a part of the family and be like a "big-sister" to our daughters. You are expected to help out with the children and anything related to them, a little light cleaning. We take care of the food and cleaning of the house, but if you want help and to cook to make us discover your culture you are welcome to do so. We would be so honored.

We have no problem helping you find french classes or a part-time job if you wish.

You absolutely need a driver's license to come to our place. The car we have at your disposal has a manual transmission (not an automatic).

Job Description

Please note that this is an approximate idea of what I’ll be expecting. We will definitely personalize the planning and agenda as we go and as you need to attend class, do a job, etc. I am definitely flexible and so grateful for your help.
Our goal is to integrate you into our family like a kind of "big-sister" to our children.

I expect you to speak only English to the girls; it's a priority for me. I do my best to teach them english, and any help with this would be so much appreciated.
I need you to be very empathetic towards children and know how to set boundaries with trust and love.
You are interested in nature, discovery, learning new things, being creative in proposing activities for the girls, and enjoying travel, cooking, general culture, sports, etc.
You will be doing morning drop-off and evening pick-ups from school, daycare, activities. Helping with the evening routine. During school term (before summer vacations), I'll need you to take care of our little one 3 days a week. And then we will organize together summer so that is suits us both but you will be taking care of the girls 3-4 days a week. After summer they will both go to school so you will have more time off.
You will have 2 days off per week. I will do my best for the days to be consecutive.
I'd like you to help me tidy the girls' things and keep their spaces clean.
Take care of the girls 1 evening per week so my husband and I can go out.
Please note that we have a pool, if you know how to swim its best.

Help with the daily routine of a relatively standard household in a good cohabitation situation: occasionally preparing a meal and running the dishwasher, light clean. I take care of the housework, but if needed, you can help.

You're responsible for ensuring the proper upkeep of the spaces we make available to you.

I'm asking you to come at a time when my husband works so much that I find myself alone taking care of my children and my house for 4-6 months. The idea is to share the tasks, the outings, the meals, the tidying up, so that I'm not exhausted and I can enjoy my children.

Accommodation

You will have your own bedroom with a double bed, bathroom and toilet during your stay. If we have company you will have to share the bathroom and toilet. But that will be occasional and only for a few days.
You will have a car at your disposal to drive wherever you need and want to go. Please note its a mechanical car. I will pay for all the expenses related to driving the girls around. You are free to take the car to visit places during your free time.
Of course, we pay any activities that have to do with the girls.

If you wish to have a part-time job or classes please don't hesitate in telling us, so we can organize it. The university of Avignon (25 min drive away) has a group starting classes in september to december. If you wish to attend please let me know.
