Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello,

I need help looking after my daughter because I am a single parent. It's actually not that much work because I can organize my working hours myself, but I needed your help so that I can sometimes attend appointments in the afternoon and evening, so that I don't have any problems if I or my daughter get sick or if we could travel together and I could continue working. My ideal is that if we get on well, we can explore new places together (winter in Germany can be very hard).

We live in a house with a garden in a small town. We have 2 cats, so you shouldn't be allergic. The university where I work is nearby, in a larger city. It takes 10 minutes by train, 20 minutes by car. Berlin can be reached by train in 1 hour. You could either do a language course at the university or, if you want to learn German intensively, then in Berlin.

Our town may be too quiet for you because there aren't that many people your age. Therefore, it would be good if you are open and proactively approach people, or find hobbies yourself.
It doesn't really matter to me whether you are a boy or a girl, but I probably have a slight preference for a boy au pair, because then you could spend time with my son and it would be easier for you to make friends. We have also had au pairs as guests several times so far and it worked best with the male au pair.

You definitely need to know some German and be willing to learn it better quickly, because my daughter loves to talk a lot (she is very social and very funny) and if she can't do that with you, she won't want to spend time with you. This has proven to be a problem in the past. I think the friendlier and funnier you are, the better we will get along.

I look forward to getting to know you, but I will probably only respond to personal messages because there are too many. I hope you will soon become part of our family and live with us for a year.

Job Description

Your job will be to pick Alfonsina up from kindergarten several times a week by bike and train in the afternoon and spend a few more hours with her, sometimes in the evenings and on weekends. It would also be good if you could look after her when she is sick (or I am, but neither of those happens often) or when the kindergarten is closed. If we get on well, we can travel to different places and I work there. Then you would look after Alfonsina during the day. It would be nice if you helped a bit around the house and cleaned the common rooms, went shopping or cooked.
