Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Originally translated from Deutsch
Hello!
we are Julian, Jeanne, Carlotta and our dog Oskar, an adventurous family.
About us:
Julian, 39, graduate engineer at Bosch in the field of electric drive development. I work 40 hours a week and start every day at 6:00 a.m. so that I can spend as much time as possible with my family in the afternoon.
I work completely from home on some days and can arrange this flexibly.
I am very enthusiastic about technology and like to spend time with electronic projects, programming, 3D printing as well as family outings on the weekend.
As a student in the 11th grade, I spent 3 months alone in New Zealand and also spent another 12 months after graduating from high school and lived there with a host family, which was a great experience.
and Jeanne, 33, social worker/social educator in addiction support. I work 23 hours/week from April 2025 and can also make my working hours a little more flexible if you have an important appointment or something else planned. I am generally a spontaneous and flexible person, but also rather calm and patient.
I like working with our dog, with whom I started training to be a therapy dog team, I like (watching) sports, films and series (including old ones) and I like being out in nature or taking short trips at the weekend. I also like listening to radio plays, preferably crime novels. And I like traveling. My job is also very important to me personally. Since I have Brazilian roots, I also speak Portuguese with Carlotta. But our family language is German.
Carlotta is our wonderful daughter. She is (still) a little shy, of course loves playing, likes being outside and likes to get to know new people. But she needs a little time. From September 2024 she will go to a care group 2 minutes from our house 3 days a week.
Oskar is our dog. He will be 4 years old in October 2024 and is just so sweet, a bit like a big, soft teddy bear who is very patient with children or old sick people. However, he likes to run after cats, even if he is not dangerous.
We live in the beautiful south of Germany between the cities of Reutlingen and Tübingen in the Stuttgart metropolitan region. Our small town is called Wannweil and has about 5000 inhabitants. Wannweil is near the low mountain range 'Swabian Alb'. It is a good place to go hiking.
Many young families live in Wannweil. Our apartment is next to the primary school and kindergarten that our daughter will go to for 1 year. Right next to it there is a small swimming pool and a sports hall where various sports courses take place.
To go out, you can take the train or bike to Tübingen, a beautiful historic university town with many young people from all over the world and a wide range of cultural offerings, many cafes and bars:
a few kilometers from us in Metzigen is the large Outlet City, the largest outlet city in Europe. You can go shopping there.
The capital of our state, Stuttgart, is 40 kilometers away. There is also a lot to do there.
You can take language courses in Reutlingen or Tübingen.
Destinations such as:
-Lake Constance (can be reached by train, or together on the weekend)
-Munich
-Black Forest
Countries such as Austria, Switzerland and France are also not far away and can be easily reached.
As our au pair, you will of course have your own furnished room on the upper floor with your own toilet. We hope you have a lot of patience for a little girl and a big heart for lovely dogs and are reliable and creative when dealing with children.
You are welcome to accompany us on our trips and vacations, but you can of course also make your own plans. We are happy to support you in having a nice and valuable time with us and in Germany.
