Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello, we are a small family from Germany that relocated to Australia last year. While our family language is German, the children are learning English, so it is often a mix. We live near Melbourne - about 1.5 hours by car and 2-3 hours by public transport. We live in a small tourist town, there are lots of cafes and little boutiques, a big river (where you can swim) and beautiful countryside with lots of mountains and hiking trails. It is very rural here, so there is not much going on in the evenings, but there are pubs and a cinema with cultural programs. You can walk from our house, which is located in a beautiful street within a nice community, to the nearest supermarket or bus stop in about 20 minutes or 5 minutes by bike. We have two cars and a guest bike.

Job Description

The main task will be to spend half a day/sometimes the whole day with our children when we are both working. I am a university lecturer and my husband works in social management. The most important thing for us is to find someone who is loving and patient and who wants to do things with the children. The children do not watch TV and have no screen time, we read a lot of books to the children and do activities together. You can speak German or English with the children and us. I speak also French and my husband speaks Italian and Swedish.

We are currently not entirely sure for how many hours per week we would need you. Everything which goes over 20 hours per week will be paid with 25$ per hour. You get free accommodation and fresh, healthy, vegetarian meals for helping us up to 20 hours per week. It will never be more than 30 hours per week.

Accommodation

There is a separate apartment directly below our apartment. A female exchange student (17y) from Germany will be living there with you while you are here. It is basically a shared apartment, where everyone has their own room and the kitchen and bathroom are shared. The house is quite old and not very sound proof but also quite big so there is enough space for privacy.
