Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Originally translated from Français
Welcome to our family,

We are a Belgian couple in our forties living in Waterloo, a peaceful and green municipality located about 25 minutes from Brussels. We are expecting a little boy in January 2025 and live in a beautiful spacious house, surrounded by fields and close to the Sonian Forest. Our environment, not overlooked, offers a large garden ideal for enjoying nature and a serene living environment.

Our household consists of two dogs, a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Golden Retriever, as well as a cat. All are affectionate and gentle companions, perfect for a pleasant family life. My wife works in the field of communication and is a basic Dutch speaker, while I am a consultant for European institutions and a French speaker. At home, French is the language we speak most often, although we both have a good level of English, which facilitates multilingual communication. There are also several language schools in Waterloo.

Waterloo is a dynamic center, offering a wide choice of shops, restaurants, bars and places to live, located less than 2 km from the house. Our neighborhood is quiet, with a bus stop 500 meters away, allowing easy access to public transport and facilitating travel to Brussels and its surroundings.

We particularly appreciate outdoor walks, animals, gastronomy, good wine and reading. We also like to organize dinners with friends and discover new gourmet addresses, making our daily life a balance between moments of conviviality and relaxation.

Our home is ready to welcome a person who will be able to integrate into a peaceful and welcoming environment.

Au Pair position details

We are looking for a warm person, who will integrate well into our family. Love of children and animals is essential, as we have a baby boy due in January 2025, two affectionate dogs (a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Golden Retriever), and a cat.

Our au pair's role includes:

• Taking care of our child: We will need support during some mornings and evenings, as well as occasionally during the day. Our child will sometimes be in daycare, so the hours may vary.
• Flexibility: A certain amount of flexibility is important, especially to adapt to the occasional needs of our schedule.
• Accompanying us on trips to Europe: Once or twice a year, we would like our au pair to accompany us on vacation, in order to continue to support the family in a context of relaxation and discovery.
• Independence and sociability: Outside of the time spent with us, our au pair must be autonomous and know how to enjoy the activities offered by the region, while being open to shared moments with the family.

In short, we are looking for a trustworthy person, able to adapt to our family lifestyle, while being independent and social.

Description of the Au Pair's Accommodation

Our au pair will have a spacious and completely private studio of 70 m², offering real independence and all the necessary comfort to feel at home. Located on level -1 of our house, this accommodation benefits from direct and independent access via the front door, guaranteeing a personal and isolated space.

The studio includes:

• A large bay window with a view of the back of the house and the garden.
• A library area and a zinc bar which add a friendly and cosy touch.
• A kitchen, a shower room and a private toilet.

The studio is next to our wine cellar, which will involve occasional access on our part. The laundry room is also located in this part of the house, but we are planning a solution to minimise any disruption, or even move it if necessary. Please note that we have a housekeeper several times a week for cleaning and laundry, ensuring a well-maintained environment.

This accommodation is ideal for an independent person, offering everything necessary to feel at home while being part of our family.
