Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hallo,
We have two little twin boys who are 2.5 years old. In September, they start kindergarten from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., every day while Mama and Papa are at work. Please support us with everyday chores like bringing the kids to the kindergarten by public transport, playing on the playground in the afternoon, and spending the evenings together reading books, singing Japanese songs, or playing with toys. We both studied in Tokyo and then moved back to Vienna, so we have some familiarity with Japan and may be able to help you understand Austrian culture. We want to continue practicing our Japanese, so please always talk in Japanese with us. It will help if you like to talk a lot because our vocabulary is limited, and the children need to hear many, many words. You will need a lot of patience and good skills to convince them to do anything, like washing their hands or putting on their shoes. We live close to the city center near the metro station Roßauer Lände and we are happy to help you if you want to take a language course. You can ask us or our current Aupair if you have any questions about how it is to stay with us in Vienna.

Job Description

For your job, it is essential that you are reliable, on time, easy to reach, and can be strict when the kids are misbehaving. We have a shared calendar where we enter the times that we need help (24hours/week), but it might happen that the kids get suddenly ill and need to be picked up from kindergarten. If possible, we will do it, but we may ask if you are available. The hardest part about this job is that you can never leave the kids out of sight, so it takes 100% focus. It can be a lot of fun to play with the kids and see how they improve their skills and grow every day. Often, one of us is there with you, but we may be tired from a long day at work and it can also happen that you are alone with the kids for some time. Your main focus will be taking care of the kids, talking Japanese with them (and us), and maybe a little household like tidying a room after playing or loading the dishwasher. We never ask you to clean the bathroom or cook a meal.
