Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Originally translated from Français
Hello!
My name is Myriam-Héloïse. I'm 40 years old. I'm a single mother (by choice) of a little girl named Victoire.
We are currently looking for an au pair from September 1, 2025, until the end of June 2026 (with the possibility of an extension until the end of August 2026 if needed and/or desired - to be discussed).
My daughter and I live in the northeast of France, in a town called Woippy (in Moselle, in the Grand-Est region), located less than 10 minutes from Metz city center, 50 minutes from Luxembourg (by train), and about 2 hours from Paris by high-speed train (TGV).
I work in the legal department of a large international firm based in Luxembourg. Therefore, I commute between France and Luxembourg (and vice versa) Monday through Friday. Here's why I need the invaluable help of an au pair! I don't eat meat (neither red nor white) because I'm very sensitive to animal suffering, but I still eat fish.
My only child is Victoire, born on December 4, 2022. Victoire is (i) very sweet, (ii) very pleasant to be around (she has always slept through the night and eats absolutely everything), (iii) very sociable and interacts spontaneously and very easily with others (adults, children, and/or animals), (iv) very alert (very curious and eager to learn in a playful way), and (v) in perfect health (no illnesses or allergies known to date).
Victoire is currently in daycare in Luxembourg. She will therefore be traveling with me by train twice a day (Monday to Friday) until the end of August 2025. She will start preschool in France on September 1, 2025. This is why I need the invaluable help of an au pair! Victoire's toilet training (permanent removal of her diaper so that she can use the potty/toilet exclusively) is planned for May 2025.
Woippy train station is a 5-minute walk from the house. The bus stop (to/from Metz) is located behind the house. We have several local shops and/or places of interest located within a 10-minute walk of our house (hairdresser, town hall, post office, playground, bank with an ATM, pharmacy, church, fast food restaurant, dry cleaners, tobacconist, bakery, grocery store, café, etc.).
My vision of education: Address the child with great respect and dignity. Speak to the child with adult words, as an equal. Be in the explanation so that the child fully understands the reason behind a "no" and accepts it much more easily. Accompany the child towards autonomy by teaching him to do things alone (Montessori pedagogy). Be receptive to his requests and needs (a child will learn more if he is interested and willing). Teach the child about frustration (you can't always say yes!) and support him in managing this emotion with great kindness. Welcome the child's emotions with great calm and empathy (you should never say "it's nothing!" or "it's not serious!") and support him in managing them. Screens (television, telephone, computer, and tablet) are prohibited for the child as they are detrimental to their proper development. The au pair must therefore refrain from using their cell phone (or other electronic devices) when interacting with my child in order to set a good example. Television must not be watched in the presence of my child.
The au pair will be an integral part of our family. She will have her own room, which she can lock and use at her convenience. She will be fully responsible for its upkeep. The common areas (entrance/hallway, living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, garden) will be made available to her, which she can use as she pleases. The only restriction will be the television in the living room (no screens in the presence of my daughter, please). The au pair may, of course, watch television when my daughter is away or in her room, during her free time. She will have free access to the house's Wi-Fi.
It is planned that during the au pair's stay with us (between 10 and 12 months - to be determined together), either on weekends or during school holidays, family outings (including the au pair) will take place in and around Metz, Luxembourg, Paris (as well as other well-known and popular tourist destinations in France (near and far), and Brussels (in Belgium) to promote their complete immersion, both linguistically and culturally.
If I fall in love with a particular au pair, I am willing to invite them to spend a weekend at our home, covering the cost of their plane tickets (from their home country (when it is in Europe) to Luxembourg).(nearest international airport)) to foster human contact and confirm if she would like to try the adventure/experience with us for the next school year.
