Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

***Preference given to candidates already in the UK and Ireland or have Visa in hand. Canadian applicants should be able to get a visa easily. If you do not hold a British or Irish passport or have pre-settled status you DO need a visa that enables you to work. Despite what anyone has told you, a visitors visa is an unacceptable means of aupairing in the U.K.***

Hello, we are Tabitha and Stefan. We are expecting our first child (a daughter) in early / mid March 2022. I (Tabitha) will be on maternity leave from March to December 2022. We are looking for help for when I go back to work at the end of 2022 (when the baby will be 9-10 months old). If an au pair is available earlier than December (September onwards) then we would have time to look after the child together / get the au pair comfortable with looking after a young baby. We would like our au-pair to be part of the family and would like to introduce them to as many cultural experiences as possible so they get the most out of their time with us.

We will be sending our daughter to a nursery nearby 2-3 days a week and would like help from an au-pair for the other 2-3 working days a week. We are able to work from home many days a week and can arrange it so we are at home on the days where the au pair is responsible for the child (to give some back-up help / confidence if needed). Other than this, there would be ad-hoc help required babysitting or picking / dropping the baby off at nursery / activities occasionally. (As such, a driving license would be necessary - we would however obviously provide car / insurance.)

We live in the beautiful countryside of Suffolk (1 hour by train to London). Nearby, you have the cities of Ipswich and Cambridge as well as the seaside of the Suffolk coast. The au-pair's accommodation would be our annexe (self contained building next to main house) - there is a double bedroom, single bedroom (for guests), living room, bathroom and kitchenette. We also have a home gym which the au-pair would be welcome to use. The au-pair would be welcome to join us for meals in the main house but also would have their own space to relax / cook in if they prefer. We are pet-friendly and have a cat of our own.

As we have family in London and the south of France, the au-pair would have the opportunity to visit London and the south of France with us during their stay with us. We would also hope to travel on holiday elsewhere with our au-pair.

Job Description

The main task would be looking after our daughter 2-3 days a week whilst we are working. This would involve playing, speaking with her, nappy-change and feeding her (which may involve light cooking). Occasionally, it might involve driving her to nursery or other activities with other children. Sometimes, we would ask the au-pair to help in the evening (bath time or baby-sitting) or weekend but this would be agreed with the au-pair in advance.

Whilst we wouldn't need the au-pair to do housework in the main house, we would ask the au-pair to keep their own accommodation clean (i.e. the annexe where the au-pair would live).

In terms of pocket money, we envisage paying 80-85 pounds a week. In addition, we would explore the possibility of a bonus payment if an au-pair stays for a certain amount of time (e.g. min. 12 months). We would be open to discussion on pocket money.
