Becca's Au Pair stay in Australia

My name is Becca and I have just turned 20 years old. 5 months ago I realised I wasn't happy in my job and wanted a change.

Being an Au Pair had always appealed to me, so I set up a profile and within days had the most wonderfully perfect Australian family reach out to me and we facetimed almost straight away. Lucky for me, they were coming on a holiday in England so I got to meet them before actually moving abroad to live with them. I look after two girls who are 3 and 5 years old. They have become more like my little sisters. They make me and their parents laugh constantly! We have dance parties, movie nights, karaoke competitions - I couldn't be happier to spend not only my working hours, but also random evenings with these kids.

I only work 3 days a week but get a decent wage. I also do babysitting for my host parents for some extra money and for their friends as well. In the area I am in, there are so many families that have Au Pairs or Nannies. On the road I live on, I have made the best friends with a Canadian girl who got here around the same time as me and is staying roughly the same amount of time! There have been so many amazing opportunities to meet lots of people on the same kind of path as myself, which has been marvellous, as meeting friends and other people around my age was one of my biggest fears about moving the other side of the world.

As it happens, it was so easy! Moving to Australia to become an Au Pair was the best decision I have ever made. It has made me realise the things I am good at, and not so good at, and I am currently in the process of applying to university to get a degree to become a teacher and then go and travel the world whilst teaching! I would recommend Au Pairing to absolutely everyone who has a passion for working with children, isn't afraid of a job that won't always be 9-5 and is interested in travelling, as it’s the most brilliant way to see the world.
