Au Pair in Canada: duties

If you are willing to work as an Au Pair in Canada, you will be required to look after the children and do some light housework, although the latter should never be your main task.

In order to avoid disappointment, we do recommend families and Au Pairs to go through the contract before the Au Pair stay begins and agree on every single term; that way the program will be a great experience for both family and Au Pair.

Your duties will include simple things related to the children. In order for you to get an idea of what the Au Pair duties are, you can take a look at the following list:

What should an Au Pair do?

  • Taking the children or picking them up from school or any other activity
  • Cooking light meals for the children
  • Help the children get ready for school/bed
  • Help the children with their homework
  • Taking care of the children whenever their parents are not around

What should an Au Pair NOT do?

  • Look solely after pets
  • Cook meals for the whole family
  • Clean non-shared rooms
  • Look after someone else's children

All your duties should be written on your Au Pair contract, so please make sure you discuss it with the family before you move in.
