Au Pair in Turkey: duties

The duties of the Au Pair will depend on your future Host Family. Although they may vary from family to family, it is important that both Au Pair and Host Family respect the Au Pair program. In order to make your agreement official, you should sign a contract with your future Host Family and keep it for as long as you are staying with them.

In order to give you an idea of what your tasks may be and what you shouldn't be doing as an Au Pair, provides you with the following lists:

What can an Au Pair do?

  • Cook some light meals for the kids
  • Keep both Au Pair's and children's room tidy
  • Take / pick up the children from school or any other activity
  • Play with the children
  • Help the children with their homework
  • Prepare light meals for the children
  • Help the children to get dressed
  • Help with light housework (ironing, vacuuming, laundry)

What should an Au Pair NOT do?

  • Look after someone else's children
  • Look after pets
  • Cook meals for the whole family
  • Clean non-shared rooms

Although it is important for families and Au Pairs to consider the previous information, it is more important that both parts agree on what is to be done by the Au Pair, as well as on how many hours the Au Pair will be working and how much pocket money / holiday / free time she will be getting.

Families should not forget that the Au Pair program is supposed to be an exchange program where the Au Pair gets to live with a foreign family and learn their language in exchange for some light work related to childcare.
