List do rodziny

Hi!

My name is Alva, and I am currently 19 years old. I am an open-minded, optimistic, playful, hardworking, active girl from a small town in Sweden with a genuine passion for working with children.

I feel like it can be hard to get to know someone through text. I, therefore, chose to create a video in addition to my written profile. If you are interested in getting to know me better and want to see if I would be the right fit for you and your family, please send me a message, and I will send you the link to my short and slightly awkward little video :)

(I decide to be cautious with uploading the video publicly or inserting the link here due to safety and privacy reasons for the kids featured, thank you for your understanding)

In the meantime, you can also find a more detailed written description of me down below. I am excited to get to know you and your family better and hope to hear from you soon :)

Doświadczenie w opiece na dziećmi

♡ MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS ♡

My family consists of my two parents, my older sister, and my dog.

My mom, Johanna, is a forensic laboratory assistant at our local police station. She is one of the most caring, loving, and hardworking women I know. We enjoy cooking, hiking, and going on road trips together. We usually drive to larger towns near us where we shop and eat at new restaurants/cafés to give us inspiration for our cooking.

My dad, Peter, works at a bank where he sells insurances. He is outgoing, hilarious, selfless, and truly me and my sister's biggest supporter. He has, for instance, coached both me and my sister's soccer teams throughout our childhoods. Since resigning as a Coach we have continued to play soccer in our garden together. We also enjoy going for long walks with our dog and working out together.

My sister, Lina, is 24 years old and is currently studying law in Stockholm. We still have a very close relationship even though she moved out about five years ago. She is spontaneous, intelligent, thoughtful, funny, and a little crazy. I would consider her not only my best friend but also my biggest role model. I love visiting her in Stockholm to spend quality time with her but also to experience a bigger city. We usually just walk around downtown, do some thrift shopping and take fun workout classes together.

Last but not least, our dog, Ted. He is our newest addition to the family but also everyone's favorite. He is small, fluffy, energetic, and VERY affectionate. I have been his primary caretaker, trainer, and bestie since adopting him. We go on long walks together in the woods and play in our garden. Ted's favorite activities are eating, sleeping, and greeting elderly women walking past us in the trails on our walks.

♡ MY EDUCATION ♡

I am currently taking online classes. This is something I would like to continue doing while I am working as an Aupair. I have a flexible schedule, understanding teachers, and I am used to balancing school and babysitting. I am, therefore, certain that I will be able to help you and your family full time if you would like.

However, I would really appreciate being given some sort of schedule for when you approximately would like me to work. This would be very helpful since it would make it easier for me to stay organized and plan my day. With that being said I fully understand that unpredicted things come up. I am used to working with children that have parents with demanding jobs and irregular schedules. So if you need me during a time that is not "scheduled" I will of course be there for you and your family. I will be very pleased as long as there is good communication :)

♡ WHAT I DO IN MY FREE TIME ♡

In addition to childcare (during weekdays as well as weekend afternoons/evenings), I also spend Saturday and Sunday mornings cleaning the police station. The station is a very interesting work environment where I am in charge of cleaning everything from the officers cafeteria and changing rooms to the inmates detention/holding cells. Since I only have a couple of hours to complete the job, I have learned to become a time efficient cleaner. The unpredictability of not knowing what I will encounter each weekend (especially walking in to the cells... as you can imagine they can be rather interesting heheheh), has also made me learn how to adapt to unique situations quickly.

When I am not working, babysitting, studying, or spending time with family or friends I really enjoy cooking, working out, hiking, and reading.

I have a true passion for cooking and would love to prepare meals for my future host family. My love for being in the kitchen and experimenting with different ingredients initially started when I decided to make alterations in my diet. I stopped eating meat when I was about 10 years old and went vegan a couple of years after that. Since no one in my family or any one of my friends are vegan or vegetarian I had to figure out how to make delicious, wholesome and cost-efficient plant-based meals by myself. I love recipe testing and finding new ways to "veganise" traditional Swedish meals. When I know that I have a busy week of school, babysitting and training I also enjoy meal prepping. Since I am the only vegan in my family/friend group I am also used to cooking nonvegan dishes while accommodating for my own meals. I am therefore more than comfortable with living and cooking for a family that eats a standard diet. I can of course use parts of my allowance to pay for my own meals.

I also truly enjoy staying active. I spent most of my childhood playing soccer. I have made incredible memories and met most of my friends from playing. I quit a couple of years ago due to injuries and replaced soccer practices with a lot of running, strength training, and hiking.

Lastly, I really like reading. I mostly read English books to help expand my vocabulary and improve my grammar. I enjoy reading biographies, educational books, and books based on real events. Some of my favorites are: Being Jazz by Jazz Jennings, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay and So You Want To Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo.

♡ MY EXPERIENCE WITH KIDS ♡

I have plenty of experience babysitting and taking care of children between the ages of 1-12. I have babysat my cousins as well as family friends, and neighbor’s children since I was about 13 years old. Some of the things that I have been responsible for throughout the years are:

- doing lots of playing and fun activities with the kids (definitely my favorite!) :)
- getting them ready for school/preschool in the morning
- getting them ready for bed
- taking them to/from school/preschool
- taking them to after school activities
- helping them with homework
- preparing simple meals/snacks
- assisting their parents with housework

I also worked as an apprentice at a preschool during a shorter period in junior high where I learned more about taking care of younger children.

♡ MY LANGUAGE SKILLS ♡

My first language is Swedish. I have also studied English for about 10 years which has given me a good knowledge of the language. I have included an "English evaluation form" in my list of references that is written by my former English teacher that you can look through if you are interested. You can also watch my video if you would like to hear me speak. I really enjoy learning and would love to get the opportunity to learn a new language or/and improve my English while working as an Aupair.

♡ MY MOTIVATION ♡

My love for children is definitely my primary motivation for wanting to become an Aupair. I also believe that the experience will be beneficial for my future career. My biggest dream is to become a teacher or a child psychiatrist. I believe that spending more time with kids will give me more knowledge and give me a better insight into what my future career will involve.

Nevertheless, I also really enjoy traveling and I find the idea of stepping out of my comfort zone by meeting new people and experiencing a different culture exciting. I am very fortunate to already have had the opportunity to travel and explore different countries with my family. However, I would consider my participation in a soccer exchange project in 2017/2018 to be my most memorable trip. Me and seven other girls from my soccer team each got matched with an American soccer player in Duluth, Minnesota. My exchange sister arrived in Sweden during the summer of 2017 and stayed with me and my family for a couple of weeks. I then spent the following summer with her and her family in Minnesota. We visited different tourist attractions, played soccer, celebrated Swedish "midsummer" as well as the 4th of July. I met friends for life, learned more about the American culture, and improved my confidence while speaking English. The experience also allowed me to get an insight into what it is like living with another family as well as what it is like to be a host family. My positive experience made me consider doing something similar again. I soon heard about Aupairing and started to research more about what the job entails. It definitely sparked my interest and I am now confident that it is something I would love to do.

♡ MY EXPECTATIONS ♡

I am going into the Aupair experience with a very open mind and, I, therefore, do not have many expectations. I do not have any specific or definite ideas of where I would like to live or what the constellation of my host family should look like. I can see myself living all around the world, in different countries, regions and working with families of all ethnicities, ages, genders, sexualities, etc..

My only expectation is to find a family that is friendly, communicative and caring. I would also like to live in a household with parents that share my core beliefs and have similar ideas when it comes to raising children. I believe in mutual respect and raising kids with tons of love! I am definitely not comfortable with the idea of using any form of physical punishment.

I would love to become more than just your family's Aupair. I hope to become my host parents friend and their child's/children's older sister ♡

♡ OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION ♡

I would like to emphasize that I have never and will never try to make anyone go vegan. I am fully aware that it can sound extreme for some to exclude animal products from their diet. It was a decision that I made many years ago and I have kept eating the way I do simply because I enjoy it :)

Thank you so much for taking your time to read my profile! I am sorry for my quite extensive amount of text but I wanted to give you an opportunity to get to know me better. Please contact me if you have any questions and/or feel like sharing more information about you and your family!
