My first experience with caretaking was with my little sister, who is 3 1/2 years younger than me. In 6th grade, I was a bit of a teacher's pet and was assigned to help out the struggling students.
I fell in love with being a leader as well as a caretaker and began taking real nannying gigs. I started teaching swim lessons at the club I was a lifeguard for, and it took off there! I've had more than a few regular families who love having me nanny their kids to this day.
My first and only AuPair experience started in February 2019 and ended in January 2020. I traveled to Melbourne, Australia, for the first time and took up nannying a 3, 7, and 14-year-old. I lived in and worked 4-5 days a week, also taking care of a dog and cat!
My host family quickly discovered I was a good cook (and I loved it), so I was delegated to make dinner every night for the entire family. I also did the grocery shopping and was basically in charge of their kitchen.
Other duties included driving to and from school, driving around to various sports practices, cleaning up after the kids and me, helping out with various tasks, picking up weekends/late nights once in a while, and taking the kids on little adventures like museums, parks, beaches, aquariums, etc.
I had an unforgettable time in Australia, bringing me a whole new meaning to life! I absolutely loved living abroad; I love to travel, so it was more than a perfect fit.
