Lettre pour l'Au Pair

We are a family of five - Rob and Orla and our children Méabh (6), Conor (3) and Niamh (6 months) - living in Cambridge, UK. Rob is British and Orla is Irish and we have been living in Cambridge since 2019. Before that, we lived in London and between us we have lived various places (Australia, Belgium, Canada, France). Rob works as the historian for one of the Cambridge colleges and Orla is an academic at a London university. Our life can be hectic but always fun.

Meabh attends a school for children with additional needs. She is autistic and communicates mainly using sign. Her big loves in life are books and music. She also likes being out and about adventuring, especially in the countryside.

Conor is into anything he can get his hands on, but particularly lego! He loves superheroes, digging in the garden and his two sisters. He attends a nursery school Monday-Friday 9am-5pm or so.

Baby Niamh is a very calm little baby who loves any attention she is given. She will start full-time nursery when she turns 1.

We live in central Cambridge in a large victorian end-of-terrace house. We have a double room with its own ensuite bathroom for an au pair. The bathroom is currently being renovated but has sash windows and will soon have a roll-top bath with shower head. Very luxurious...! The au pair's room is accessed via a separate staircase off the kitchen. The children each have their own bedroom and we have two further bathrooms (both with showers).

We live opposite the bus stop to Cambridge's historic centre, which is four stops (10 minutes) or a 15-20 minute walk. We are 10 minutes from Cambridge train station with 4 trains per hour going to London and are 30-45 minutes from Stansted airport for flights to most places in Europe.

Cambridge is a really lively city with lots of students and plenty of things to do during the day and evenings. The city is quite green and it is great for walking, cycling, running and rowing (we both learned to row while here). It has lots of cafes, bars, restaurants, great museums and a constant offering of gigs, shows and events. There is really something for everyone here.

We currently have an au pair (since February 2023) who will leave us in September 2024. She will be travelling with us to Belgium in March/April and to France/Germany for a few weeks in the Summer to help Rob mind the children while Orla works from home. There will be similar travelling opportunities for our next au pair!

We are looking for someone to come join us to help look after the children. This would involve an hour in the morning helping us all to get out of the house and then meeting Meabh off her school bus at home Monday-Friday at 3.30pm. We would then need help through until bedtime (7.30pm). In total this would be 25 hours per week. Weekends would be completely free unless you would like to do some additional babysitting for extra pay.

Description des tâches

Mornings: Be downstairs for 7.15am to give the children some breakfast cereal and to help get their teeth brushed, coats on etc. Everyone normally leaves the house by 8.15am.

Afternoons: At 3.30pm, meet Meabh off her school bus (which drops to the door) and give her a snack. Help her change out of her clothes and have a shower if needed. Read some books or do some homework with her until a parent gets home. Help Rob or Orla get the children up to bed. This starts around 6.45pm and would be done by 7.30pm.
