Hi, I am Gretchen Baylon from the Philippines.
Before I don't have any ideas what is an Aupair. I just saw a bunch of facebook photos from my high school classmate that she always travelling in Europe and I was amazed by that.. I dream also of travelling in Europe.. I didn't message her about how she been to Europe. So when months and years passed by a co workmate of mine texted me if I want to be an Aupair.
So I search in the internet what's an Aupair.. So when I remember my classmates pictures it pop in my mind that's the way how she get to Europe.. So I grab the opportunity..I already have a host family at that time so it was easy for me. We do have some Skype or messenger chat and video calls at that time..
The first call was very nice she already show me their home. She explains to me my work task and she just ask me when I want to travel to Denmark. It's up to me when.. When I said I want in August and she said okay we gonna process the contract.. The process didn't take long.. It was an easy and smooth process..
You just wait for your contract to be delivered to you and have your passport..You all set to have a biometrics and Embassy interview would follow.. Yes, there's an interview in order for you to obtain a visa going to your host family. The interview questions are just all about the contract..About yourself, your family, what do you know about Aupair as well the country that your living with. Just an advice during the interview don't be nervous,be honest in your answer.. Just straight to the point. After the interview I just waited for just 2weeks and I already have my passport stamp with a Schengen visa..
By August 3 I already fly to Denmark..It took me almost 18hrs of flight from the Philippines..Yes it's quite a long travel but it's worth it. I arrived in Denmark in August 4..My host family pick me up at the airport including my host kids.. Before heading back home they tour me around Copenhagen..It was a nice journey because it's very different from where I have been. I only saw the castle just in movies and books but now I was able to experience it.
As of now I'm also studying a Danish language.. I studied for 3x a week.. Yeah it was hard but if you have the will and determination you will strive hard for it..As to my host family,I don't have any problems with them. They treat me not just an Aupair who is cleaning the house but a real family member..Which is I'm very thankful for them. I don't feel any homesickness because they are their to support and let me feel a part of their family. Aupair is not all travelling is also our obligations to do some household chores. If you do well in your task your host family would always be grateful on you.. For the my host kids, I just talk to them in simple dansk but they are still nice on me..
