My childcare experience runs deep, both professionally and personally and has played a huge role in shaping who I am today. Professionally, I worked for over a year as a private tutor to two children aged 7 and 9. Due to their parents being immigrants and non-native English speakers, the children were significantly behind academically and had limited foundational knowledge. I was brought in not to supplement schoolwork, but to establish it from the ground up. I assessed their educational gaps and designed individualized learning plans tailored to each child's pace and learning style. I covered core subjects including English (reading, writing, grammar), Mathematics, and foundational Science, while also incorporating creative activities to boost comprehension and engagement. I created lesson materials, worksheets, tests, and tracked their weekly progress. I worked daily with the children, and also supported them with homework, school readiness, confidence-building, and general academic structure. My approach was structured but nurturing, adapting methods to keep them both challenged and encouraged. By the end of our time together, both children were not only on par with their peers, but performing above expectations. Beyond formal tutoring, I’ve been caring for children nearly my whole life. I have been a hands on Babysitter from the age of ten. I was the go-to caregiver for my younger cousins, not just occasionally, but on a regular basis. I did everything from changing nappies, doing hair, preparing meals, conflict resolution ,managing routines, helping with schoolwork, comforting them through emotional moments, and teaching them basic life lessons. I was often the one they leaned on, even when it meant sacrificing parts of my own childhood. But I always showed up because I cared, and I knew I could make a difference in their lives. The early responsibility gave me an instinctive understanding of children. I know how to connect, guide, and support with love, patience, structure, and a sense of fun. These experiences taught me how to nurture, teach, adapt, and lead with empathy. Childcare isn’t new to me, it’s second nature. I want to become an Au Pair abroad because I genuinely love working with children and connecting across cultures. There is something incredibly beautiful about being trusted with a child’s development, academically and emotionally, and being part of a family’s everyday life. It’s a role I respect deeply. Living abroad adds another layer of meaning: it offers the chance to learn from a new environment while offering the best of who I am to a new family. I’m excited to give my all.
