My name is Amaya, and I’m a 17-year-old student currently in my final year of high school at the Alexander von Humboldt German School in Mexico City. I’ve grown up in a close-knit family with my mom and younger brother, as well as an older brother who recently moved abroad to study. My upbringing has taught me the value of adaptability, responsibility, and quality time with loved ones.

I’m fluent in Spanish, English, and German, thanks to my trilingual education since I was three years old. I love reading, dancing flamenco, and exploring art through painting. I’ve also developed a strong interest in healthcare, which I hope to pursue as a career after taking a gap year.


Becoming an au pair combines my desire to travel and my love for working with children. My mom was an au pair in Italy when she was my age, and hearing about her positive experiences inspired me to follow a similar path.

Additionally, this gap year will allow me to grow as a person, become more independent, and explore a new environment before making decisions about my future studies. I believe this experience will be both enriching and unforgettable.

My experience includes looking after younger family members, as well as assisting teachers during a three-week internship at my school’s kindergarten. While I am not a professional caregiver, my hands-on experience with children aged 1 to 6, coupled with my genuine love for spending time with kids, makes me confident in my abilities. I am proactive about improving my skills—for instance, I plan to complete a first aid course before starting my au pair journey to ensure I am prepared for any situation.
