Dear Host Family, I’m formally known as Sinayo but my friends and family sometimes call me “Smiley” because I’m always smiling and cheerful. I’m a very driven individual who is also easy going and dedicated to anything that I do. I may be shy and reserved at first but I have one of the purest personalities and I open up to people once I get to know them. I was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa and I live with my father, who is a bus driver and always tries his best to put a smile on my face. I’ve been to all the capital cities in South Africa and my favorite is Cape Town, I lived in Cape Town for my second year while in varsity. I made genuine connections there and met my best friend, Micaela there. I like to think of Cape Town as the South African version of Greece as it is so beautiful and lush. I studied a BA in Motion Picture at AFDA University but I couldn’t complete my degree due to funds. I have obtained a Cabin Crew license which makes me a qualified flight attendant which is pretty awesome.I would also like to get a TEFL Certificate in order to teach and make a positive impact in children’s lives. I have always had fun being with my younger family members and I found that I love to play the role of being a “big sister” since I grew up as an only child. I love kids and I have tons of experience with them. I was an au pair in the USA for a short while and looked after Timide, who was 9 months old, Ademide, who was 7 years old, Aramide, who was 10 years old and Tomide, who was 12 years old at the time. My duties with the kids included making their beds, bathing, preparing meals, doing laundry, waking them up, driving them to and from school, playing, changing diapers, feeding, putting Timide down for naps, supervising and entertaining. I babysat Kevin and Kwenzo and they were aged 6 and 8. I used to wake them up, assist them when they brushed their teeth, I prepared dinner, entertained them, went for walks and went to the park with them. I have cared for younger family members and I looked after Christian. My duties with Christian included preparing meals, dressing, putting Christian to bed, bathing, entertaining and playing. I also cared for my niece, Thando, who was 4 years old at the time and I used to prepare snacks, get her ready for bed, fetch her from school and help her to freshen up.My other niece that I looked after was Siphokazi and she was a baby at the time. My duties included preparing meals, putting her to bed, bathing, entertaining, assisting her to get dressed and playing. I have experience with working at a day care centre with 9 month olds to 5 year olds. I would prepare lunch, read, teach lessons, sing songs and supervise during play time. Lastly, I was a live in babysitter and I looked after Khanya, who was 11 years old and Jabulani, who was 6 years old. My responsibilities with them included cleaning their rooms, waking them up, making sure that they brushed their teeth and that they took a shower and I also prepared breakfast for them. I think it’s an incredible experience to learn different cultures, learn new languages and I am someone who is open to new experiences. I would love to try the Dutch cuisine, learn how to make their dishes and learn how to speak Dutch. I feel that learning a new language is something to be really proud of. I love reading novels, taking pictures and I also enjoy taking walks and working out. I read and watch a lot of content pertaining philosophy, my favourite author being Franz Kafka. I’ve taught myself to play piano; I really love music and I listen to most genres. Something else that I enjoy doing in my spare time is gaming.
