I currently don’t have experience as an au pair but I do have plenty of experience as a baby sitter and teacher’s assistant. For as long as I can recall my mom has worked in childcare, with that said I have grown up around childcare even as a child. I started volunteering in preschool classes at the ripe age of 15. From there I realized that I really enjoyed working with children and that it would have a special place in my heart. Throughout high school I was a peer tutor in Elementary classes as well as a childcare provider for a advocacy for literacy program. After I graduated high school I started working as a teacher’s assistant at Telamon Early Head Start which is a seasonal program for migrants and children of agricultural workers. There I was placed to work in many of the classrooms, I gained experience working with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. I became CPR certified for the job and worked a good 3 Summers there before finding a new job in Grand Rapids. Whilst in college I found a job working for YMCA before school care, in which I worked with children before their school day began. I would like to become an au pair to gain more insight on travel and other parts of the world as well as feeling a sense of purpose and being needed for something, I think this job would be very fulfilling for me and helping a family with daily tasks or extra help around the home is something that I would really enjoy. I’m also at a stage where I want to work with children and be in that setting but I want something beyond the the classroom.
