Dear Host family I'm Ellie.
I live in Cornwall, England right by the beach and in the lovely countryside. I am an energetic and enthusiastic person who is always smiling.
A little about me I love to act and take photographs, care for my houseplants and I have a big love for animals. I have 4 dogs, 3 cats, 2 rabbits and 8 chickens so it's quite a little farm here. I did a 2 year course in performing arts at college and I have taken this year to work and gain important life skills. The past 2 summers I was a general counselor at an American summer camp in Massachusetts which I will be returning to in June.
I want to become an au pair because I love working with children and to be able to watch and help them grow. For them to learn to trust and have fun while also learning important skills as each day goes by. I love being able to be silly and creative when working with children. Creating new long lasting memories is a big thing that I want to achieve. I love having a different adventure everyday and have the ability to have a positive impact on them. I would love to gain more transferable skills for the future by learning a new culture and the customs of a different country is something I really want to do as well as having the opportunity to live in another country.
You should host me because I am always very friendly and up for a chat. I am always supportive and a great listener no matter how big or how small the problem is but I am also a great conversationalist. I always bring positive energy and happiness wherever I go. I am able to be silly and have fun with the kids but I am also very mature, responsible and sensible. I am very driven and focused when it comes to work and I am always professional while still being fun, caring and trustworthy. I have the ability to solve problems when they arise while keeping a calm attitude in stressful situations as well as being great at organization. I have the ability to be a leader and someone to follow and guide where being independence is key. However, I am always a great team player in making sure everyone gets along and everyone's opinions are heard. I have a creative mindset meaning I can come up with different challenges, games and stories which keeps children entertained. I am very respectful and considerate to everyone and everything and treat people and items the way I want me and my belongings to be treated.
The reason I qualify for the position is not just the patience, kindness and fun loving person that I am but also from my experience always working with children in leadership and being a big supportive role. From a young age I have always wanted to help to teach for example teaching athletics and coming up and teaching dances and other sporting activities. As well as babysitting children from ages 6 months up to 14 years old and looking after my two 9 year old cousins when I get to see them I have also been had the opportunity to work at an American summer camp. Here I was a general counsellor meaning I was working with the youngest girls from ages 5 to 8 and then i have looked after 8-11 years olds my second summer. Here I was helping to encourage, support and join in, in activities and helping them to become confident in themselves and to get them to try all of the different activates the camp has to offer while helping them to overcome there fears as they do this, eg a fear of water and of public speaking where two common ones. I taught them about friendship, trust and how to have fun as well as being considerate of one another and thinking about how others feel, so to always include everybody. I was in a bunk for 3 ½ weeks with a group of 7 girls with two other councilors and I then got moved due to someone leaving into another bunk who one other councilor, half way through the summer. This meant I had to adapt to having different girls and to help them to learn to trust me and realize that I wasn't going anywhere as well as connecting with them while they have already made connections with there other councilor. I was able to do this and have a great relationship with these other 7 girls while still maintaining a great one with my previous bunk showing my commitment and strong work ethic that I have for working with children. Here sometimes you would be woken up at 2am or you would be sat with a child for 30 minutes as they where upset and feeling homesick so here I showed kindness, distraction methods and being a great listener and talker to make them feel at ease and get them back off to sleep. I will take on any situation in stride and do everything to the best that I can.
I hope this helps you to see the type of person that I am and why I would love to become an au pair
I cant wait to hear from you and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
