In 2019, I started taking care of a little girl, she is now nine years old and I started helping her with her English homework two hours a
week. However, in 2020 the pandemic arrived and in Bolivia the school year was closed prematurely. There were several
inconveniences and Raquel, the girl's mother decided to change her school. The new school did not have English, so I began to give her
English classes so that she would not forget what she had learned and would maintain a good level. We always do activities out of the
ordinary so that she doesn't get bored and can learn by playing. Sometimes I stay longer with her and leaving the academic side we can
play games or make simple desserts.
In October 2020 I started taking care of a child every day. Now he is 7 years old and since his parents work all day every day I take care
of him in the afternoons. We have to do his school homework, I also feed him, it depends if I pick him up early or later. If I pick him up
very early I give him lunch, a snack in the afternoon and his dinner. If I pick him up a little later, just snack and dinner. As the children
are very active I have to keep him entertained when he finishes his homework. Depending on the day and circumstances we play inside
the house or go out to the park, museums, the library, children's events, storytelling evenings or make crafts at home with recyclable
objects. So I spend about 30 hours a week with him.
In 2022 since May I decided to support the Sunday school at the Chiquicollo church. Since I was a little girl I have attended church and
grew up with this religion. In the Sunday school the teachers must teach the word of God to the children. I am a Sunday school teacher
for about 3 hours a week, and as a teacher I have to make the children sing and pray. I also tell them biblical stories from which we draw
teachings and instill values in the children. Also to reinforce the story we always do an activity like a craft.
I arrived with my 1st host family on July 28, 2023, and have been taking care of two children, a 9 year old girl and a 7 year old boy. The daily routine was to take them to school and pick them up, take them to different activities after school, prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also doing homework, laundry three times a week and keeping them active by playing in the backyard, going to the library,
walking with the dogs or going to play in the parks. In these three months I have taken care of my host kids for about 480 hours.
With the current family I took care of a 19 month old girl and a 4 month old baby 45 hours a week since December, among the tasks I
did were changing diapers, feeding them, playing with them, doing tummy time with the baby, making simple meals for the girl and
purees for the baby, also taking and picking up the girl from her school. I drove every day at least 2 hours because the school is far from
home.
