I lived in two families for 6 months and got a double positive experience.
The first family had two and a half children: girls 2 and 3 years old, as well as a pregnant
mother :) I cared for girls and did light housework around the house. My duties included:
preparing breakfast and lunch boxes, cleaning the dining area, loading/unloading the
dishwasher, vacuuming, hanging clothes on the dryer and stacking them, helping to prepare
lunch/dinner, cleaning play rooms after games, preparing for bed and putting girls to bed.
We did a lot of interesting things with the girls :) We frolicked on the playgrounds and in the
garden; at home we played with dolls and hide-and-seek, catch-up; read books, played with
plasticine, railway, cars, the first simple board games, collected puzzles, drew, even chatted
and giggled despite their young age :)
In the second host family there were older children, as well as a cleaning lady, so the duties were completely different.
Namely: occasionally vacuuming, cleaning playrooms, kitchen and dining areas, taking the
youngest to the kindergarten and picking up from there. In this family, the children were more independent and I could focus more on spending time with them, and not on cleaning :)
They really liked to play active sports games with me. We rode bicycles, ran, played with a
ball, tinkered in the garden. My options for activities were puzzles, reading, board games,
coloring, drawing, crafts, cooking together, various games with plasticine and thermal
mosaic.
During the Au-Pair year we visited the lakes with the first family. I swam very well, but the
girls couldn't. We still spent time in the water, they floundered under my control and we
played safely. Therefore, I can definitely help in organizing recreation with children on the
water :)

I have a lot of fond memories from this year, therefore I want to repeat this experience of living abroad, learning new things, expanding borders :)

I do another Au-Pair year in the Netherlands now. Here I have different responsibilities and manage them better because now I am really experienced Au-Pair :)
I take care of a two-year-old boy the whole day. That means any playful activities as well as putting him to sleep, feeding and changing him. I can go out with him for a whole day or just have fun at home on a rainy day. Furthermore, I teach him Russian and it worked so good, that he already uses Russian almost as well as his native language.
