TO MY FUTURE HOST FAMILY.

Dear future host family,
Thank you for reading my letter and spending your time on getting to know me. I am very excited about getting to know you and looking forward to staying with you, but first of all I would like to introduce myself to you, to give you a first impression of me, my life in East Africa - Uganda and why I would like to spend a year in your country with you.

My name is Doreen, I am 23years old and I live in the central of Uganda. Since my parents got divorced two years ago, I used to live two weeks a month with my mother, Rosemary, and her partner, Micheal and the other two weeks with my father, Lawrence. My mother is 49 years old and works as a famer. She lives with her partner, Micheal and our two goats in a small town called, Bunga, where I work as a waitress/Barista. My father is 50 years old and works as a famer. He lives in a small village, called kansanga, where everyone knows each other. I have a very close relationship to both of my parents and they support me in my plans of going abroad as an Au pair. I want to make new experiences. Therefore I want to go to any country as an Au Pair. After my year as an Au pair I would like to go to university and probably study Tourism and hospitality, because I really like to be in contact with different kinds of people and exploring different places in the world.

Due to my „changing residence“ I became quite flexible, adaptable and independent and learned to get accustomed to people quite easily. In addition I would describe myself as reliable, caring, polite and patient as well as optimistic, since I try to make the best of every situation. Furthermore, tolerance is a really important value I always try to implement. I am organized and according to this I’m quite good in making plans, and in always having an alternative plan.

In my free time I like spending time with my friends who are very important to me. They always try to help me when I have problems and are always there for me.Besides I really like dancing, which I do enthusiastically since the age of 5. I’m part of a dance group, called „Grashopper“.We perform our dances on stage at carnival. I also attend Zumba fitness every week. Another of my interests is travelling and getting to know different countries, cultures and languages, which is defintely one of the reasons why I want to become an Au Pair. Moreover I‘m very interested in cooking and baking, shopping and fashion and in photography.

I really enjoy taking care of children and gained some experience over the years. At the moment I regularly take care of my sister's son who is 3years old. I oftenly walk him to school accept the days he doesn't have to attend school. I often play with him, help him with his homework or learning English and make him food.We always have a lot of fun together. In addition I joined the project „language connects“ from an organization called Rotary Club two years ago. In this project I helped a 6 year-old girl and her family with immigrant background to integrate and learn English. In pedagogy class in school I had a course on baby-sitting in which I learned important basics. We also visited a kindergarden with many cute kids and learned the most important things about children of different age groups and how to react in different situations. From time to time I also give tutoring in Math and English.

Why I want to be an Au pair? The question is not difficult to answer. I really love children because they always make me happy with their shining eyes whenever they learn something new. Their huge imagination and their will to experience unknown things has always fascinated me. Because I also want to become a mother someday, being an Au pair would be a good opportunity to get a first idea of it. I hope to increase my experience in childcare for my dream of becoming a mother. Furthermore I would like to get to know more about the different ways of life in different people, spent Christmas and Thanksgiving with you, celebrate the 4th of July but I also would like to show you the African different cultures, if you are interested in them. Besides I want to gather valueable memories with a new family and friends and hopefully become more independent and self-confident during this year abroad.Of course it’s the time I´m going to spend with you and your kids that’s most important for me.

I am looking for a host family who is open-minded and lovely. I don‘t want to be just a worker but a part of your family and also a big sister for your children. Of course I’ll give my best to treat your children as if they were my own and take good care of them.

I hope we can develope a close relationship and work and live together as a family. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon and I hope we will spent a great time with each other!
