I do not have any previous experience of the specific role as an Au-Pair. However, I believe that my prior experience with similar tasks have prepared me sufficiently and well to be able to take on a responsibility such as this one. In short, my experience of child care is that I take care of my younger siblings, of which mostly my 4-year old brother. I have also worked as a babysitter during all of my teenage years and I have done a small internship at a kindergarten. I have also been a youth leader for the organization CISV for the last couple of summers with the responsibility to plan activities and handle various tasks. To take care of children is therefore nothing foreign to me, and something I greatly enjoy. My experience of additional tasks that I imagine I can have use for is that of ordinary house tasks, gardening, cooking and baking, driving, and animal care (horses, chickens, dogs, cats and smaller pets) and more.

My personal motivation for working as an Au-pair is partly because I believe it is a good and nice way to spend a summer and earn a little money. Mostly I would like to get to know more people and I would like to work with children specifically because that is something that I really enjoy and that I am good at. Last year I sort of became like a family member of my host families and that gave me a larger perspective on family life, tradition, culture and love. I believe that working as an Au-Pair for a family will give me new perspectives such as these and meaningful connections. It would also be fulfilling to be able to help others which is something that I enjoy and that is important to me.

My wish is to go abroad as an AuPair comes from that I feel like I want to experience something new and be in a new context. I am used to traveling and living abroad, which also is something that I absolutely love. For example, as I previously mentioned, I lived in France for a year.

Also, I used to go to summer camps abroad for almost every past summer for the last eight years. These camps were arranged by CISV, a non-political and non-religious youth organization working for peace and cooperation. For example, I have been to camps in Japan, India, Singapore, England, Spain and many more countries, for almost a month each. Through this I have met people from all over the word and gained an understanding of different cultures. I have also volunteered for CISV many times as a youth leader, facilitator, staff and kitchen staff. For two years, I was the local representative for the youth in my city and at the moment I am a member of the council in my city. I would say that it has developed my leadership and organization skills, my patience and my ability to take on responsibilities, amongst other things.
