Dear Host Family!

I am so excited to meet you!

My name is Alisha, and I am 23 years old. I graduated from university this July with a Ba (Hons) in Sociology after completing my year abroad studying in Georgia, United States! During my time in the States, I fell in love with the country and the people. I was so lucky to be able to travel round, visit different states and explore the beautiful country and all it has to offer. Now, after finishing my studies and graduating, I am so excited to start the next chapter of my life doing something I love in a place that I love.
I am one of three children, with one older and one younger sister. My older sister, Sasha, is a year and half older than me, so we have a very close bond, which I am very grateful for. My younger sister, Ruby, is 9 years old, so despite being just as close with her as I am with my older sister, I have a very different relationship with her. Our relationship is very special to me because I feel as though she looks up to me and I get to help raise her and be a role model for her. I love taking her out on what we call 'sister dates' and doing fun things with her, such as going to the playground or the trampoline park, baking together, or going to the cinema and letting her pick out her snacks from the shop first! It is important to me to have a strong bond with both of my sisters so that they feel that they can trust me and rely on me and know that I am there for them always. My older sister also recently had a baby boy, who is now 13 months old. I have loved becoming an auntie and having another baby and now toddler in the family! He has just recently started walking and saying his first words and it has been such a special thing to watch him learn, grow, and flourish.
I want to become an Au Pair for a kind and loving family, that will accept me into their home as part of their family. I want to be a role model and a sister-like figure for your children to look up to and feel safe around and supported by, like my younger sister has had growing up. I love children and I enjoy watching them learn and thrive in a fun and positive environment. I am very creative, and I love doing fun activities with children, helping them learn, grow, and explore. I have lived on my own or with housemates for 5 years now since moving away from home for university, so I am very independent and competent with household chores. I love cooking and trying out new recipes. I often help my younger sister with her homework, and I love studying and learning, so I am more than happy to help your children with their schoolwork if they are of school age.
My hobbies range from languages to arts and crafts to water sports! After meeting so many people from so many different countries on my exchange year in the States, I found a love for languages and learning about different cultures. I am currently trying to teach myself French and Spanish and I would love to become fluent in these languages one day. I also love all things art and creativity. I studied art all the way through school and continue to do it as a hobby now. I love painting, but I also love to make things and get creative by making things with random objects that I can find around the house. I enjoy cooking and baking, and I love to bake seasonal goods, because I love celebrating the holidays and getting in the spirit with decorations and holiday themed activities! I also very much enjoy being outdoors, I love to go on daily walks and explore new places. I enjoy group sports games and I played rounders throughout school and university and eventually gained a role on the team committee. I also love swimming and water sports (not that I get the opportunity to do much in England as the weather is so cold!) But during my year in the States, I loved going to the lake with my friends to surf and hang out.
I have had lots of experience in childcare. From a very young age I started babysitting for my mother's friends' children and my younger sister's friends at the weekends and during the holidays. I have looked after children ranging from babies to teenagers. Then when I started university, I worked at a children's holiday club during the school holidays. We looked after children aged 4-11 and it was great fun planning and carrying out exciting, age appropriate and engaging activities for children with so many different interests and abilities. I also completed a children's first aid course whilst working here when I was 19. I then started working at a nursery and pre-school with children from 3 months old to 5 years old, during the holidays when I was 22. Each age group of children came with different challenges, and each taught me different skills, but I loved being able to work with children of all different ages. Some of the skills that I have developed include patience, compassion, and empathy. Working at the nursery, also allowed me to greatly improve my communication and leadership skills, as well as my creative thinking ability. Last summer after finishing my degree, I worked at a live-in language summer camp, where children aged 8-17 came from across Europe to improve their English and to have a great summer! During my time at the summer camp, I had so much fun and learnt so much from the children too. I once again improved my skills in communication, critical thinking, patience, and leadership. I ran numerous activities, took students on excursions, and was involved in the day-to-day running of the camp. Some of my favourite activities that we did with the students were football tournaments, talent shows, fashion shows, move nights and all the craft activities, such as jewellery making and mural painting. One of my favourite memories from the summer camp was when we were helping the children prepare for the talent show and as we were helping them make their outfits, we were discussing their favourite memories from the camp with them as it was coming to an end. It was also so exciting and rewarding to watch the students model their creations that they worked so hard on in the talent show and having so much fun whilst doing it! I also provided pastoral support to the students, with the camp being residential and the students being away from home, as well as supporting the students in learning English as a foreign language. Overall, I have had lots of experience with children, both in my personal life and professional career, and I very much enjoy and am confident in caring for children.
I have a valid UK driver's licence and have been driving for nearly 6 years now. I am a very positive and outgoing person and I strive to always try new things and take advantage of opportunities that arise for me.
